I don't think OP is saying that post-bop, bebop, etc. are better than the other kinds of jazz, just harder to appreciate, thus making it necessary to be something of a jazz patrician to fully "get". if this is the case, third stream shouldn't be level 0.

Can anyone explain why among all subgenres of jazz, hard bop and post-bop are the most easily forgotten? It's pretty nice to hear and everything, but it's not as memorable as some Avant, Fusion, Spiritual, Cool, even Free jazz.
