Actually listening to something that is NOT Indonesian right now. Something released on Canary Records. They usually make excellent releases, so I thought I'd give it a shot. Too bad there aren't any artist tags, I hate that. Even if it's just an indication of where it was recorded like "street musicians in Yogyakarta" or whatever I'll be happy.
Does anyone have any suggestions for good VOCAL MUSIC from Indonesia?

I'm going to listen to those two Balinese albums in the archive. Trying to get into gamelan.

I mean Java jesus what is wrong with me
Time for some legit field recordings. Ethnic Folkways, so it shouldn't disappoint. First track starts off really strong with some VOCAL MUSIC, finally fuck yes. Really much more interesting than gamelan. Or well, gamelan is great, but it's more interesting to see the other aspects of Indonesian traditional music, which I think a lot of people tend to overlook because GAMELAN right in your face whenever you talk about Indonesian music.
Why do Indonesian dancers look so scared?
Anyone have any opinions on "where to go" next? I'm thinking Malaysia maybe, since it's close to Indonesia and should have some similarities in music?
