Also got late in the last thread.

A few hours ago I posted a demo I made with a friend about the Mad Professor Amber Overdrive I got this week. Pretty wild thing, really. It's a mix of overdrive and fuzz and it's as gnarly as it gets.

My bud is probably going to keep it but I'd be seriously tempted to replace my EQD Hoof with it otherwise.

Or join the /gg/ game, which nobody ever participates (except for me, who has recorded over 20 riffs now).

The /gg/ game:

- Record a short riff cover from a band that can be recognized. If you don't have an interface, mic or way to record with high quality, just use your phone. How well known is the riff and your performance will dictate the level of difficulty but try to make it possible to guess and avoid that sweet riff your cousin Mose recorded in 1984;

- Post it to clyp.it and/or vocaroo without giving anything away;

- Others try to guess the band and song name;
>>
>>60383952
Because posting a chord progression would give people more to work with but whatever give me 5 minutes and I'll post something.

Also in Jazz/Fusion you can pretty much get away with anything while in rock/metal/shred you are usually limited to muh lydian shapes.

Jazz/Fusion takes advantages of various different scales and their related modes. Find me a shred guitarist who utilities Dorian b2 or Dorian #4 and I'll be thoroughly impressed.

I find emphasizing the intervals that give modes their tonality, like the minor second in Phrygian, while soloing over changes is what enables me to hear the characteristics of each mode.

People mistakenly compare modes that consist of the same notes, like G Ionian and A Dorian, but I find it makes more sense to play modes that share the same tonic in descending order of brightness. Go from G Ionian to G Mixolydian to G Dorian and so on. Richard Lloyd talked about this in his old GW column.

Cosmic Slop is an ostinato pattern, but still cool as hell.
Soul Power 74 by Maceo and the Macks is nice and fun too, a good-sounding way to keep the timing and technique tight, and yet it's not too demanding of the left hand
And of course there's Sex Machine.

One of these days I'll get my guitar technique together enough to learn the guitar part to Cosmic Slop. I really do love that crazy little song more than I should, and the guitar solos of some of the live versions are completely insane.

I've recently been getting into making my own alternate tunings. Is anyone into alternate tunings? What tuning to you like to use/have created? I'm interested in what is being used by some people here.

Does Free Improv always mean "Play random notes and pass it off as good" or are there people who actually play music?

Why doesn't he sound like he's just playing scales and modes like everyone else?

does anyone here use a drum machine? I've been thinking about getting one to practice with. Are there software substitutes that are just as good that i could download somewhere? Would prefer a drum machine that allows me to drastically alter the tone of the drums. Does anyone have any recs?

is it possible to run a drum machine through the same cabinet that i'm playing my bass guitar out of? and if i wanted to record it would i be able to plug it right into my pc or should i just download some software at that point?(yes i am really new to this stuff).

easy. learn theory, disregard all the theory you learned and only play with sounds and textures.

>>
>>60386925
Is there really a difference between musician's and guitar players?
>>
>>60386869
Because music is art and good art requires a certain degree of intent and accuracy in execution . Without a solid foundation in the technique of your craft you're literally aimlessly wanking on your instrument worse than any "shredder".

I'm a free improv guitarist myself and I hate hacks like Haino, but have great respect for people like Fred Frith or Joe Morris because theyre thoughtfully pushing guitar technique forward with a solid foundation in tradition.

Yeah ok, here me out here.
Okay, you listening? There's no fucking good art or bad art. There's just art. Art is art and that's it. You can do great art with just a vision or a idea and without any talent. Most important part about art is that it is genuine self-expression. You don't like something? Okay, you don't have to like it because you know, it's art. It's emotions and ideas and visions and shit. There's shit you can't connect with and shit you can okay? Good that we had this talk, now you can stop being so angry.

What is the fix? Why is there no gain?
>>
>>60387817
well i've done this several times and I need to get a look at your amp proper to diagnose exactly what needs to be done. just unscrew the amp from the cab and take a photo and i'll be able to tell you EXACTLY what to do.
>>
>>60387844
That's fine, and I'd be willing to do that, but I want to know what you think the problem is first.
>>
>>60387817

>>
>>60387576

>>
>>60387881
that's mostly the problem with shred guitar. it's technically difficult lifeless robot music.

i'm not going to sit here and say what they play is easy, it's not, i can't do it. but there really isn't much beyond it's difficulty, it usually ends up sounding like a bunch of exercises thrown together (which they pretty much are).

I think you're a faggot who wants me to try to open up my amp and hopefully kill myself on via capacitors or ruin the amp completely. You cannot give me a real explanation for what's wrong with it.

I'll just take the shit into guitar center later today. Fuck you, faggot.

>>
>>60388065
Not that anon, but you probably have a cap that's gone bad. Real easy to spot. Google it first so you know what to look for. Just unplug the amp and let it sit for awhile, SS amps dont have huge caps like tube amps which take forever to discharge. Just don't touch anything and you'll be OK.
