This is how good hip hop that achieved a classic status used to be.

I feel like, this album is better than any hip hop album released this decade. that is just my opinion, don't be angry on me. i actually like some hip hop albums from this decade too, especially the work of Death Grips, but i feel like people sometimes give hip hop albums a "classic" label way too easily compared to other genres.

Trip Hop is not defined by whether the piece of music contains vocals or not.

If you want to know what trip hop is, listen to Massive Attack, Tricky and Portishead. i mean sure, you could call Endtroducing Trip Hop too, after all it's one of the albums that started the trip hop genre, but Instrumental Hip Hop is also fitting for it in my opinion

s dj shadow trip-hop or hip-hop, and what is rap?
>>
>>60354677
Agreed.

There's just a tremendous range of emotions and moods in that album. Spiritual, nostalgic, funny, melancholy, mysterious. It's just an incredible statement about music in general, how all these little snippets of sounds you never paid much attention too are all really quite beautiful when you put them together.

I feel like it's rare for hip hop in general to have so much subtlety.

>all hip hop must have rapping

topkek
>>
>>60354677
Endtroducing is mainly praised by white dudes (not trying to a start fight here) and UK DJs who aren't familiar with old skool hip hop. Public Enemy's beats blow Endtroducing out of the water. I like the album, but it's wayy overrated by people who don't know that fantastic sampling hip hop albums existed prior to '95.
>>
ITT: Whites discussing hip hop.

Hip hop was born and bred from STRUGGLE, a bit hard to convey with just instrumentals. Yes, hip hop needs to have rapping in it.
>>
>>60355640
yeah! totally! just like the blues, punk, and country, and also reggaeton
>>
>>60355605
public enemy is lame though...........
>>
>>60355640
Hip hop was born from Jamaican sound system parties to provide bboys something to dance to in the streets to escape the gangs and violence.

It was literally the EDM of its time for local blacks. There was no struggle behind it at all. Herc relocated from Jamaica and just carried on DJ'ing.

The first few years of hip hop didn't even have rapping/MC'ing.

Stop talking bollocks.
>>
>>60355676
That's just like your opinion.....man
>>
>>60355702
but they aged terribly....
>>
>>60355743
Endtroducing aged a lot worse (especially compared to SILY & Donuts). Public Enemy's ITANOM & FOABP are better at combining samples seamlessly and creating their own atmosphere that help carry each track. With Endtroducing, it feels a lot sloppier and the atmospheres are not defined as well.

Hiphop is a shit genre and one of the easiest ways to tell if I should disregard someone's opinion or not. Thank you, hiphop, for making it easier to discern if someone is a plebian or not.

>going into the "black white" argument again as if skin color is relevant to anything

First of all, I do not determine the quality of albums by how difficult were the life of the artist who made them. i judge them the way they are.

Second of all, personally i dislike the lyricism in rap albums. not only that the language used is shallow and for some reason they have to use the word "nigga" 10 times in every single song, almost every single time it's either a generic "its hard dealing with racism" or a shallow lyricism about drugs and genitals.

When comparing rap lyricism and lyricism in many other genres, i cannot give rap alot of merit when it comes to poetic value. and this has NOTHING to do with the skin color of anyone, i do not care about whether their skin color is light brown, dark brown or purple. (though i would have been really surprised if it was purple, so maybe i would care a bit in that sense. i would wonder how it's even possible for human to develop a purple skin color :v)

endtroducing still sounds new public enemy does not
>>
>>60356104
How exactly does Endtroducing sound newer than this?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8QalHc_-c0c

Also, there's a pretty good chance DJ Shadow was influenced by The Bomb Squad's production.

>I base lyricism in rap off of Fetty Wap and Two Chainz

I can't take white hip hop fans seriously, sorry. Y'all aren't into the REAL hip hop sound, y'all like slightly different versions of hip hop. Y'all like Tyler the Creator and Hopsin and think Kendrick Lamar is a god because he's a slightly better version of the aforementioned artists. The fact that only SOME of you are fans of Nas just goes to show how fake it all is along with the fact that most of you don't know shit about pre-Carter 4 Lil Wayne, the fact that y'all would put Eminem over anybody - don't get me wrong Em can spit and is the only white rapper I have some respect for, but he's not on that level whites try to put him on. Don't ever think color has nothing to do with it...it's not your fault, I guess it's something in your DNA that turns you off from genuine hip hop sound.
>>
Trap is objectively the greatest form of hip hop, you're wrong
>>
>>60356413
>the only white rapper I have some respect for,
Mac Miller and Evidence are great, what are you on?
>>
Black people ruined their own genre.

Kool Herc started hip hop as an escape for black youths to relax, breakdance, party and socialise away from gang violence, crime and the degeneracy of NYC yet 30 years later, its all about everything it was started against.
>>
>>60356324
The sampling on Endtroducing is nowhere near dense enough compared to PE's production. There's a lot less going on, and as a result the atmosphere (if any) it creates is a lot more laid back.
With PE's production, it's a lot more chaotic, the samples take on different moods and combine to become more than the sum of their parts. With Endtroducing I never get the feeling beyond that of a DJ triggering a few samples here and there from a sampler. Unless I'm hearing some special version of Endtroducing that's been stripped of most of its samples and layers.
>>
>>60356448
>Black people ruined their own genre.

Funny because it's widely regarded among black people (how do I know? I'm black and am around black people 24/7 unlike any of you) that today's rap sucks. My theory as to why it's still making shit tons of money is because of 1) younger fans 2) edgy white suburban fans and 3) the fact that the music can be catchy sometimes even though we all know the shit has no substance. It's not a disease of just rap but of all music in general. It became about pumping out quick hits for money - the only thing I can criticize blacks about is that they chase the dangling carrot (money) easier than anyone else because most of them never had shit before.
