Also, can you explain why? I haven't watched it in years, but I remember everything with L being a great thriller with some occasional bumps in the road and Near's part just being chock-full of leaps in logic that the anime's pacing also didn't help.

It's mostly due to the fact that they over complicate every little thing just to pass it up as an "Intelligent anime for grown ups" when in reality the audience is mostly 13 yo that want to be like the absolutely Mary Sue-ish main character
