you know what gets me about the whole Noise scene, at least here in the US, they claim to be about musical freedom and etc and etc, and then piss and moan about more mainstream music like whiny 13yos that just found more experimental music all the time. Like.. if you were really about musical freedom wouldn't you just not give a fuck what other people did?

I made this with converted files in audacity
I barely did anything and think of it more as someone who records sounds in nature then releases the sounds as their own work

>>60345069
I plan on mashing a lot of noise up with Disney movies. I did this with some Black Metal today. Not great but eh I needed to find a way to listen to 'We Are Friends' from the Jungle Book with out cheating NBBMN.

Also mashing noise with songs from RENT is super fun.

Vomir obviously. Merzbow has alot more variety.

New albums by ddx-10 and Epiglottis are both solid, though the Epiglottis one is less noise than his other releases.

nbbmn already gets way too boring at the end, nothing but noise for a month would kill me even if I hadn't been listening to only black metal for weeks

I considered doing nothing but HNW for maybe like a week of NBND, then more chaotic stuff for the rest of the time. It's summer here, and I like how warm most HNW feels to me.

Vomir obviously, Merzbow is the best noise artist by quite a bit, no other noise artist has nearly as many great recordings as him. The Vomir stuff I heard was just standard noise wall boredom. Proanomie is is most popular release I think and that one is just the same sound throughout without change, sounds good for about 10 minutes tops.

Yes, Merz has the edge with such a huge discography. You can hear him evolve.

I suggested Incapacitants, and Hijokaidan for that matter, since I hear more energy, something more physical in their work that I respond to more.

With notable exceptions (way more than I've likely heard), Merz is more cerebral and doesn't get my heart racing like those two.

I'm in Nottingham and I've seen Mutant Ape, Aaron Dilloway, Junko, Vomir, Iron Fist of the Sun, Consumer Electronics, Weise, Sudden Infant, New Blockaders, Con Dom, Cremation Lilly, Knifed out of existence, Radiation Geisha, Pain Jerk, Damien Dubrovnik, Evil Moisture, and a fuckton of others, so yes there is a noise scene in the UK, you just have to go out there and find it. Once you find one gig, the rest is easy, there are probably a handful of people in your town/city interested in noise, they want you to come to their shows, and will keep you informed.
>>
>>60358617
there's plenty of overlapping noise activity in the UK
strange rules and alter are prominent young labels, oldtimers like harbinger sound are still going strong, unrest prod organize events and put out quality releases etc.

>>
>>60361704
>whats their hardest album?

musta rotta's the hardest most disgusting BU i've heard(the artwork is totally fucked as well, even for BU), but that's a 7"
purification's the hardest full-length i think, only some 90s taint tops the repulsiveness of that album
his more recent work(at least under the BU moniker; XE's another story) is all slow moving sludgy shitsmeared dirges, pretty cool but crushes more with atmosphere than harshness
>>
>>60360725
If anything actually thinks Merzbow is a hack they are not a true noise fan. If one is a fan of noise there will be at least a few Merzbow albums that they should like. Unless they just listen to shitty noise wall all the time or something.
>>
>>60359947
Incapacitants and Hijokaidan are in the top 5 noise artists for me, Merzbow is still no.1 though due to his large discography, especially for his late 80's, 90's, and early 2000's releases.
>>

>>
>>60363314
oh yeah 6 hours, i love me some hnw. are you purist? i make all mine purist hnw
>>
>>60363355
Could you elaborate on HNW purism? Don't think I've ever heard of that specifically, but I could probably infer. In any case probably not, I like to experiment. Lately I've been sourcing field recordings/acoustic instruments and manipulating them into loops, usually digitally (yeah yeah ">diginoise" w/e).

Also nice get
>>
>>60361822
This is goddamn retarded. There aren't any rules or criteria for being a "true noise fan".
>>
>>60363576
i believe purist HNW refers to the vomir/dead body collection/skonhet etc. school of absolutely static slabs of sound, as opposed to to someone like the rita where some dynamics do exist "behind the wall"
>>
>>60363576
by purist i just mean absolutely no change, like take the rita his stuff changes a little but its still hnw but vomirs stuff doesnt change at all, thats the kind that i meant, either way is fine imo. i would like to start playing with using recordings but id like to find something that i would find interesting to record
>>
>>60363671
yeah this is a great explaination, but i wouldnt consider dead body collection to be purist since they change up sometimes but vomir and skonhet are definitely purist
>>
>>60363587
i'd say that having a sincere interest in noise should go hand in hand with understanding the history of the movement, and there aren't many figures in noise which have as much historical significance as merzbow

i don't even care that much for merzbow but fuck, i acknowledge that the vast majority of noise artists i hold in high regard either wouldn't exist or would exist in a vastly different form if it wasn't for merzbow laying down a lot of the groundwork
>>
>>60363671
Ahh yes I see. I'm a fan of the "monolithic slab" approach but most of my stuff falls into non-purist territory. I'm interested in how the static walls sort of play tricks on your brain as they move along. Soon I want to try replicating that by creating near-imperceptible changes in the wall, where it's dynamic but you have to really be paying attention to notice. Sort of like the Disintegration Loops.
>>
>>60363756
You're more than welcome to think that, and I agree with you about Merzbow's importance, but it's objectively idiotic to imply someone's interest in noise is somehow illegitimate because they don't agree or don't care one way or another.
>>
>>60363823
we're more or less in agreement then

appreciating something and acknowledging its significance are two different things
>>
>>60363936
>we're more or less in agreement then
Yeah, I feel we are.

My only point is that no one, much less anyone here, and specifically much less >>60361822, is in any position to determine who is or is not a proper noise fan. If someone feels they're in a position to do so, they probably don't belong in this scene.
>>
>>60363979
>Proper Noise Fan
Sort of an oxymoron no? I would like to think my noise brothers don't care one way or the other if someone is a 'proper noise fan'. Presenting yourself as a fan of anything requires the appeal to 'popularity'.

I can confidently say most people here (from observation) don't care what the popular consensus is. Those bringing argumentative rhetoric of the validity of 'fandom' are just spill overs from the greater board that is /mu/.

Kind of like calling something 'entry-level'. That implies a hierarchy which does not exist in noise.

Someone once asked me how long I have been in the 'scene' at a noise show. I quietly nipped that explaining I am not part of any 'scene'. Just a fan of harsh tunes. I'm not there to hang out with you people (not you people on /noise/ but you get what I mean).

But hey man I don't make the rules. Nor should anyone.
>>
So why does Vomir always get called a hack? I thought the whole point of noise was to not care about this sort of stuff if you enjoy it
>>
>>60364364
I'm thinking the same thing.
>>
>>60364305
>are just spill overs from the greater board that is /mu/.
this thread's been unusually /mu/esque for /noise/

>>60364364
because he's the most visible HNW artist outside of the rita, and the rita does more than HNW, so he becomes people's standard proxy for their personal distaste of the entire HNW concept.

>>
>>60364641
the rita's bodies bear traces of carnal violence. also i hope you are okay and this is just a question
>>
>>60364409
I should elaborate on the second part because it's a bit unfair. there are plenty of valid criticisms one can have of vomir. it is true that the vast majority of the stuff he puts out under that name is functionally identical, I just happen to think that works with his whole concept. he has put a lot of thought into the concept behind his work and his live show.

his "noise folk" stuff is beyond obnoxious though.

>>
>>60366585
>I can't seem to find a unifying theme in what you listed
Yeah, sorry, they were all interesting in different regards. I was going for a noise + x theme rather than something more specific they all had in common

WYWO has a huge variety of noises and textures as well as pop song samples, Beats Noise and Life has a bunch of hip hop influence and some cool samples, xtyourmilkyhair is well it's like nothing else really, Venereology has that death metal influence keeping the album cohesive.... Thanks for the recs anon, I'll check 'em out

well aube constructs each album from a single sound source so that may fit your "noise + theme" thing. another artist you may want to check out is eric holm, he only has one album out called andoya and it's rhythmic noise made from contact mic field recordings of wind on telegraph wires on an norwegian island north of the arctic circle (I have a boner for acoustomatic noise). it actually does a really great job of getting across the cold, desolate nature of the island.

Fair Warning: This is not the super distorted loud drone that has come to be 'popular'. These are very long pieces that have subtle changes. Eliane used one piece of gear for this album. An ARP 2500.

Not for everyone but easily in my Top 10 Albums ever. The word 'unique' should be reserved for artists like Eliane Radigue.

Mutant Ape was the first noise act i ever saw, and I was just thinking this id the greatest thing I've evr see, heard or felt. He was followed by Nate Young, Dilloway, and then a joint Young Dilloway set, So it just got better and better.

Not seen Smell and Quim, I have seen filthy turd a couple of times.
