They aren't that similar. NYC is kind of an offshoot in their discography, someone stole a bunch of their equipment so they had to use old disused stuff.
It's basically a mix of extended comfy instrumental segments and skeletal minimal ones with beat poetry inspired lyrics. It has some fairly interesting moods.
Free City Rhymes is the highlight and one of the best songs they ever did.
