Just spitballing, but my guess is starting at where he is now, he's ostensibly inviting people to go backwards from the present day with him to see how he got where he is and see his reactions to it.
Like, answering the question "how did you get here?" and he's going back to the start of his career step-by-step to answer it, sort of.
Also it's probably because he expected less publicity in the beginning, and was more interesting in showing people his reactions to his early roles.
