>yggdrasil
It's basically my favorite album. I listen to it all the time. I love it, but it's super inaccessible and most people I'm sure wouldn't like it. Not because of some bullshit pretentious hipster crap but just because it's literally chanting and the sound of rain.

It sort of creates a landscape in my head of wet, dreary forests in Northern Europe in ancient periods, like pre-1500 BCE. Living with a tribe of other Germanic "barbarians" in wattle-and-daub huts in the forest, beating drums and making music with hollowed out sticks and singing.

Have you ever seen Wardruna live? Incredible atmosphere, really sounds nothing like the albums though.
I don't know if they do regular tours though

>>60315610
It varies between albums, although it's always rooted in indie/avant-folk
Albums like Lost Wisdom and Dawn are straight up acoustic folk stuff, No Flashlight is sort of tribal and percussion-heavy, Clear Moon and Ocean Roar are super light and clean indie folk albums, Wind's Poem is very atmospheric and noisy, Sauna is pretty drone-y
I mean Phil's done a lot of different stuff, start with something you think suits you, it probably does because everything he's done is at least decent

>>60315642
Iwrotehaikus' S/T is great
Check Tristan Tzara - Omorina Nad Evropom and Da Ne Zaboravis
Corea - Los Peores 7km De Mi Vida
Kaospilot - Kaospilot
for some similar stuff from the glorious European continent

>>
>>60315742
>lol why not
I like to hear the music, and sound quality is always worse live, and there's people yelling and jumping around and stuff. If the bands I liked played in places where the venue was properly built for sound projection, and where the audience sat quietly until the set was over and then clapped politely I'd probably love live music.
>>
>>60315795
youre just hanging with the wrong crowd, try going to drone concerts and stuff
>>
>>60315817
I'm not that guy, but I remember my first time going to a screamo/post-rock concert. Damn, never had a better time in my entire fucking life
>>
>>60315817
What are drone concerts? Like is drone a genre of music? If its a subgenre I'm not familiar with, chances are it's not something I'm gonna enjoy.
>>
>>60315795
Tbh I might go see Wardruna again, this time they're playing pic related
I mean the sound has got to be good, and the crowd was really quiet and appreciated the music last time
I think you've got the wrong idea about shows, but I'm not sure how it is where you live.

>>60315849
Yeah, they're usually really something else
Saw Loma Prieta play a tiny venue with about 40 people this summer, it was sweaty as fuck, the sound was bad but it was one of the best shows I've been to

>>
>>60315849
yea i agree but that anon in particular doesnt like concerts like that, did you not read his post?
>>60315851
drone is everchanging sound that creates an atmosphere and sometimes incorporates other elements, sorta like the album you described
>>
>>60315870
Maybe it's different for some bands like Wardruna, but every metal band I've ever seen live clips of the crowd is just going apeshit and interfering with the sound and knocking each other around and shit.

Or they're just on a stage at the back of a bar with their normal amps and things and it sounds rubbish.

All of that's fine, I'm sure most people go to concerts because they like that sort of atmosphere, but I just like the music and the studio albums are perfectly acceptable.

My first gf would drag me to shows for the weird rock bands she liked and it was all smothering crowds and people yelling and the music so loud you couldn't even hear it properly

>>60315882
If they play in that sort of venue, then I probably would actually enjoy the concert.
>>
I do actually enjoy bluegrass jamboree's, but that's because I get to bring my mandolin and sing and participate. And also because there's usually a shitload of delicious fatty Southern cooking.
