Buncha reasons, I guess. I think the most important thing is that cassettes are cheap to make, so for smaller artists that don't have the means of pressing an album to vinyl but want something less boring than a CD, cassettes are perfect. Plus cassette decks are mad cheap, you can get a pretty decent one for like 10$ at most thrift stores.
