I just experimented a bit with the guitar tremolo, trying to play on the strings by sliding it on them and see what sounds it creates

After doing that for just a short while, i noticed the finish of the guitar tremolo is damaged, and my strings looks a tiny bit damaged too... on the strings the damage is quite minor though.

I'm not 100% sure if the damage wasn't there before already, but it seems like it may have been a result of my experimentation
>>

>finish guitar tremolo is damaged
So? Do you get worried when you get a dent on your hammer?
>>
>>60301032
That's not the same thing... i just prefer it to feel and look nice when i use it

On a side note, i wonder why it's called tremolo when it's actually doing vibrato.
>>
>>60301136
Maybe then you shouldn't play your guitar that much, you know it's gonna get worn no matter what. Just put it on the wall and dust it gently ever so often.
>>
>>60301188
You are missing the point.

First of all i will never put any guitar on a wall, unless i will have for whatever reason a special stand for guitars that is on a wall or something like that, but i don't think it's a very likely scenerio. i use my guitars to play on them and express myself artistically.

Of course my guitar is going to get damaged when i play it, but, ideally, i prefer to keep it in the best shape possible for as long as possible, and avoid any damages. and btw, it's good to clean your guitar from time to time, but i actually don't do it as much as i should...

You can play your guitar all day long every day and still keep it in a good shape if you will be decently careful and keep it in good maintenance. the two things go hand in hand because the better the shape of your guitar is, the more years youll get to enjoy it ~
>>
>>60301413
>shape of your guitar is, the more years youll get to enjoy it
So, a paint chip and scratches effect the tone or the hardware or something? That doesn't make any sense. Obviously I make sure the neck stays straight and the hardware in good condition but I don't care about the paint job or anything. Man, if anything few dents and stuff on a old guitar just give it charm.
>>
How long will it take for the skin on my fretting fingers to toughen up? Only started playing on saturday but played for 1-2 hours everyday and of course having some pain, which is no problem but I am afraid of damaging my skin which would make me unable to play for a few days.
>>
>>60301657
First of all, it effects how it feels like when im holding my tremolo, it used to be more comfortable to hold when it didn't have any damage.

But even if it was purely aesthetic, i prefer my things to look as good as possible, because i deeply care about them.

>>
>>60301802
Well just buy sanding paper and sand it you dingus.

I care about my guitars and other instruments. I make sure they work and I plan on keeping them forever. Just because I'm not a faggot about little dents and scratches doesn't mean I don't care bout them just as much, or even more than you do about yours.

I have lived days without food, I have had times when I haven had any damn furniture in my apartment, there has been times when I have had to sell huge chunk of my vinyl collection just to keep myself alive. Not a single time have I thought about selling any of my guitars and I never will.

Open the control panel, hardware and sound, manage audio devices. Check which device is designated for playback. With a regular audio interface, you would be able to select it as the playback device for the whole computer, but some cheap thing like that might only allow you to use it for tracking and monitoring. You should find the answer in "manage audio devices"

I'm a beginner at guitar, and I'm currently experiencing some pain on my right shoulder and neck. I'm right handed, and this only happens when picking single notes (with my right hand touching the body of the guitar), it's fine when I'm strumming, tough.

I was planning on doing finger exercises daily for an hour and a half, but I can barely make it to 15 minutes without any pain. I can still play, but it's annoying as fuck and I don't want it to get worse or cause some serious injury. Any suggestions?

I play a strat type guitar, if that helps.

learn why a scale is a scale, learn why a chord is a chord

just start at the basics, google music theory basics. guthrie govan's books are a pretty good starting point, he goes over all the necessary basics.

if you get bored with the basics try messing around with the harmonic scale, learn the chord scale from that scale, there's some weird sounds in there (minMaj7 chord for one).

>i dont know shit about music theory or guitar theory
Am I being a dick, if I say that the answer is in the question?
>>
>>60306965
Learn different chord voicings and begin to practice scales, slowly.
I say again, slowly.
Learn each note, listen to the tonal quality, see what a 4th sounds like when compared to a 1st, 5th, etc.
>>
>>60303293
your posture might be screwed up.

you're also probably stiffening the hell out of your shoulder when you play single lines. most new guitar plays stiff arm and stiff shoulder everything. unless you're doing peter townsend style windmill strumming, you never want to use your shoulder for anything. it should mostly come from your wrist, and sometimes your forearm for chords.

What kind of cable can I use to connect my guitar and bass to my pc through my DAW such as FL Studio or Ableton?
>>
>>60308733
an interface.
>>
>>60307683
You need at least twice as many as the guitarist is using, and four to 8 times the wattage is not unheard-of to stay heard.

The rule of thumb is that for every octave down in frequency you go, you need twice the power to get the same apparent volume.
So if the guitarist is strumming his high E string through a cranked 20 watt amp, it would take 80 watts for his guitar's low E string (two octaves down) to sound as loud as its high e string. Further, it would take 160 watts for your bass's low E string (three octaves down) to sound as loud as that high E string.

Pedals starting to arrive and pedalboard getting closer to being finished by the week.

Got the Royal Blue OD tonight and A/B'd it against the Kalamazoo. I think the Mad Professor is the winner here. Kalamazoo has a honky tone that can also sound thin that just didn't cut against the Royal Blue. The Royal Blue is just perfect blues/rock crunch in a box.

I might also replace the Belle Epoch for a Carl Martin EchoTone in the future.

The Warped Vinyl is just a beast. By far the most incredible, versatile and amazing modulation pedal I've ever used.

Has /GG/ ever done a 'buying guide' of sorts?

Obviously used gear is always something shoppers should be looking at but even just a guide for new products would be helpful. For instance I know people here say the lowest stratocaster you should get in a Squier Standard (~$230) but not everyone has that cash to drop on a guitar.

Plus it would be handy to know which amps under $100 & $200 are the best buys.

Hey guitarfags

I was thinking of getting a new guitar for a new stoner rock/doom project (Something in the veins of Kyuss, Orange Goblin, Sunn O))) and Earth)

And looking up for a new ax, this came up in my search

Looks like cheapass Chinese counterfeits, but it doesn't look too expensive for a double neck, and I'd be willing to get a cheap guitar at all.

Reviews say it's a thrustworthy website in terms of shipping, their electronics are decent too, but I don't know about instruments.

Thoughts ?

How is that any different from slaving through pwr out?
>>
>>60318078
both amps still have their individual preamps.

someone correct me if I'm wrong, but amps that have this feature, it's like a quick easy way of plugging 1 guitar into 2 amps. if you really want to get anal about it, you might even notice a difference in the sound of using a buffered stereo pedal just to split your signal and send it to two amps.
>>
>>60318078
Agreed >>60318297

Jumpering off parallel inputs is the same as y splitting out of your guitar. Slaving would be using one preamp into multiple poweramps.

Buffers are in equipment to match impedance and prevent signal loss or degradation. Just like when you roll your volume off and tone flattens with it, the interactivity of your guitar's output plays a role going into fuzz pedals, amps, most stuff. So some people want to cork sniff around buffers and others might be ok with them having huge signal chains.
>>
>>60318297
I'm running a POD HD500 right now, so I have 2 guitar outputs, so I don't even need to bother doing this with 2 heads, right? I can just run one cable to each head?
>>
>>60318454
you could even run the thing directly into the power amps.

people knock multi effects but they have gotten really good in the past 5 years right?
>>
>>60318454
oh and short answer is yes. there is basically no reason to jumper amps if you dont want to .

Les Paul Signatures can sound good, but they're definitely their own special snowflakey thing, what with the active electronics and whatnot. They're also scarce and out of production, hence EXPENSIVE. When you can find one, the Epi LP Sig goes for over $1000. A Gibson example? Again, when you can find one they command $4500 or more now.

A P90-equipped LP is much more available. Epiphone makes their '56 Les Paul Pro as part of their standard line. They retail for $500 new, $325-400 used.
As for Gibson, their 2016 line features a 60s Tribute LP, complete with P90s, that retails for $900.
>>
>>60317822
The input jacks have switches in them, so if you have a cable plugged into the "BOTH" input it sends your signal to both channels, no matter where you plugged in before.
That cable going from one amp to the other is just sending the signal from one amp to the other-it's called "daisy-chaining", and It's very common. The cable between the "Both" inputs just makes sure both amps are running with both channels active for maximum BWHOOM.
>>
>>60300582
Tip for the future, turn the volume on your computers speakers all the way up and listen to it. If you like that thing there at least tune to it (428 hrtz), it's what the Velvet Underground do, its mains hum and its a dick on all guitar recordings if you're poor and live in an older house.

Mustangs are decent for practice, but they're not the best choice if you want to jam. You get a lot of sounds, but the quality isn't as good as if you had an amp that focuses more on one thing.
Match picks are pretty meh, get yourself a wide choice of picks as a beginner, that way you can find out which ones you like the most.

Running 2:1 compression at the front of the signal, but I'll probably compress the whole thing at the end (dynamically).

>The playing is definitely clean enough
Really? That's what I've really been struggling with. Since the hemorrhage I don't have full control of my left hand so playing is hard. Been putting hours and hours into playing to try and get control again.

Thanks man. My two main interests are guitars and engines (so I never have any money). A car drove pulled out of a side street and drove into the side of me when I was on my motorcycle. I came off and went head first into a gutter.

Had a brain hemorrhage on impact, and the second one is estimated to have been about three weeks later. Had an $800 helmet on though, and that most likely saved me life. Win some you lose some really.

I've been putting 3-6 hours a day into playing when I have the energy. I can play again, but my left hand is really lagging behind my right hand. It's pretty frustrating. Not much I can do but push on though hey.

probably, yeah. I bring a 1x12 and a 50 watt head to band practice (guitar, not bass)

no one has been a bigger victim of post rock than I have

I used to be in a fun psych-math band

now I can barely move for long spaces between my phrasings

How important is the quality of your amp?

I can't figure out if my effects sound shit because I just don't understand how to use pedals properly, or if my amp is just incapable of putting out a pleasant sound.
>>
>>60328309
idk

I can achieve what I think are decent clean tones with my effects rig and I'm playing through an amp that people constantly tell me is a heap of shit (spider IV 75)
>>
I don't really have time for pedals but I saw this picture and started salivating. Quickly found out that it was a shoop. Not happy.
>>
hey /gg/ what's the best quality/not ridiculously expensive middle ground DI box you know?
>>
>>60328360
So I've had this amp for what must be about 8 years now.

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/amplifiers-effects/kustom-dual-30rc-30w-1x10-2-channel-guitar-combo-with-chorus-and-reverb#productDetail

I don't know how to tell if it's shit or not. My parents got it for me when I was 13 so I didn't exactly make an informed decision when I bought it.
>>
>>60328309
Anything from your holy grail guitar to a plywood djent stick will sound like shit through a garbage amp.

I need a solid, cheap interface that I can connect a guitar, mic, and midi to, any suggestions, or is there a guide for this anywhere?

Yeah my guitar is actually decent as well. I'll probably invest in an amp once I have some money.
>>
>>60328309
the amp is definitely more important than the guitar. unless the guitar has serious tuning stability or intonation issues it will sound great when played through a great amp.
>>
Would an SD Custom 5 + Pearly Gates combo be good for versatility?

May as well, I post advice on dialing in decent VST tones from time to time if you need any. Why didn't you have insurance on your car?

I'm looking to buy my first bass amp and would really appreciate some help sorting things out. I know that i want a tube bass amp head with a half stack cabinet (maybe a 4x10?).

I want to make some noise rock and i need it to be loud enough to play over a drummer. Are there any tube amp heads that would be particularly good for an aggressive, noisy lead bass guitar? Similar to Lightning Bolt or Death From Above 1979, but their gear is out of my price range (i want to spend <$500 on a head and <$400 on a half stack but they can be used)

Do the cabinets really differ that much as long as you're getting the same amount and size of speakers?
>>
If I plug my bass into a guitar amp but use headphones, am I still going to damage the amp speaker?
>>
>>60329140

DESU you really dont need a tube amp to play that stuff, a solid state amp will work just as good 200W or better for gigs of you're not being mic'd. and will leave you with more funds to use on other things

THIS. Solid State is honestly preferable for bass.

>>
>>60329221
i was only leaning towards tube cause i heard it has a nice warm sound plus i thought it'd be nice to have all analog equipment but i can easily change my mind. Are there other things that solid state amps can offer other than a cheaper price? Are there any in particular that have effects that cater to a noise?

>>60329301
why is it preferable for bass?

do you guys have any amp heads in mind?
>>
>>60329116
Sound reasoning. Good price and it's functional. How often do acoustic basses come around? Probably not very. I am a guitar player but I say grab it and start getting your money's worth.

they're lighter, and more duarble, the upkeep of a solid state amp is cheaper (no replacing tubes which can be expensive) and there are a number of pedals and effects that can be used to get the sound you need at a fraction of the cost.

i'm particular to the Acoustic brand of amplifiers and cabinets. they're cheap, easy to find and can give you a really superb sound if you know what you're doing with the EQ

as most people say in this thread it's always best to shop used (pawn shops, reverb, Guitar Center, Craigslist, etc.) you may even be able to get a tube amp for cheap on these sites.

here's a picture of my setup, i play a lot of punk rock. and i lucked out, my entire rig cost me less than $700 and does exactly what i need it to do.

>KB200 head: $170
>Acoustic B410 Mkii
>top: $200
>bottom: $130
>tuner pedal: $ free
>preamp: $ 30
>90's Squire P bass: $70
>(not pictured) Squire Vintage Modfied Jaguar bass: $95
>>
>>60329587
fuck how did you get the jagbass for 95$? I thought i got a fucking steal at 160$ for mint condition.

i saw it in a pawn shop, apparently they dont know shit about the instruments they have. some guy that worked there was talking to me and i asked how much he said 200, and i gave him some bullshit "well, i know this has been used or else it wouldnt be here, these things gor for 200 new, and used they sell for around 100 at Guitar Center, blah blah blah" and the guy was like, "well if you want it i can sell it to you for 100.." i mentioned that one of the tuners had a little play in it (totally bullshitting) and he took it down to $95... really they go for about 130-150 used, haha

People's opinions are so different it's impossible to generally agree on a list.
>>
>>60330071
god damn, you lucky bastard. most shops will just tell you to fuck off at that point.
>>
>>60309342
Why would you buy new at that price when you can get a great guitar by watching your local classified ads for a while?
>>
I can't figure out the guitar part at the ending of the Age of Adz song. It starts at 6:55. If anybody a million times more talented than me can figure it out, I'd really appreciate it.

I need a pedalboard.

Should I be cliche and go the pedaltrain route, buy a flightcase and try to make a board that way, or maybe just diy one?
>>
>>60330803
make one for sure.
