fuck, i love that french son of a bitch
>>60282771
Started going through my orthodox folder and this was the first album. So far it's pretty damn awesome. Real evil shit.
Should i make an ultra lofi bm demo using just a bass, a broken casio keyboard, and improvised percussion (tables, boxes, the floor, etc)?
Kinda like BRENORITZVREZORKRE except no guitar because i dont own one
>>60283023
make blackened noisecore
why haven't you accepted ildjarn into your life yet?
>>60282771
This is pretty sweet.
>>60283062
Pretty much. I'll just play on the highest string or uptune my bass if thats even a thing
I also have an upright bass

>>60283128
that's some pretty kvlt shit right there lad
>>60283095
Ok thank you
The Crying Orc always gets to me.
I think it's because it's a very minimal little melody that appears completely unexpectedly amidst the shrieking madness of Aske and then fades out just as it came. It could almost be comical if it weren't genuinely touching in its simplicity; like Varg could perfectly have left it out, it even sticks out a little awkwardly, so it means that he really WANTED The Crying Orc to be on Aske even though it doesn't serve any traditional purpose. And that means this little interlude had a special significance to him at the time, or at least it seems so.
Also I feel that the image itself of a crying orc encapsulates perfectly what Burzum is about; at first it seems a bit ridiculous but the combination of melancholic introspectiveness and raw bitter aggressiveness is what makes Black Metal and especially Burzum stand out so much. And the crying orc is a very vivid and striking embodiment of that entire aesthetic. If I didn't know about Varg and the whole drama surrounding him I'd assume that most Burzum album were made by an orc who somehow survived the fall of Sauron's empire and lives alone in a cave with only a lute he looted from a corpse, and is just waiting for an opportunity to die decently.
And that's why The Crying Orc, even though it sounds like nothing else Varg ever wrote, is the quintessential Burzum song.

>>60283128
I don't see what's so special about this band. There's more to creating an atmosphere than just being raw and minimal.
who here likes Aborym?
>>60283651
Their cult status carries more than anything. They're really one dimensional and minimal stuff. I like how it sounds like blackened crasher crust though lmao. The atmoshit colaboration he did with nidhogg is a lot more palatable.
>>60283651
in all honesty ildjarn works best when you listen to an album from start to finish, the relentless repetition and sparseness of tracks in succession has a really strong hypnotic quality to it, and works to create a primal atmosphere which at least for me is a lot more interesting than plenty of BM with more fleshed out songwriting
a lot of BM artists go out of their way to talk up their connections to primitive nature and shit but ildjarn is one of the few i've heard with which that connection really is communicated and felt in the music, and really strongly at that

Inner Circle>Blazebirth Hall>Les Legion Noires>Crepseculo Negro
They're all good though
Does /nbbmn/ like Aaskereia? They seem like a more kvlt version of Bergtatt era Ulver or something. I like the clean guitar parts in pic related but it seems like overall, their work falls short. Their best song is probably the eponymous song (20:13 in the video).
Does anyone know of bands that have a similar vibe but are a bit better?

if you shove a cassette in at the correct angle you can fit it into an open usb

Why not?
>>60286323
Mate there's not much if any noticeable difference between V0, 320, and Flac, especially on raw black metal tapes.
>>60286357
I realize this. I just like having consistent file types/bitrates in my library if possible.

>>60287720
>any fun?
more fun than should be legal
>>60287778
I just used the sampled kits that come with logic. With some reverb and a few other tweaks they sound pretty realistic.
I don't listen to black metal very often, but have started listening to Bathory, Burzum, Blasphemy today. Really liking it a lot so far, but I have a question.
Why do early bm albums sound so shitty? For example, 2 Burzum albums I downloaded today sound like 128 kbps or worse. I redownloaded them 3 times each from different people on slsk (all of which said 320) and they all sound the same.
Is this the trve kvlt sound or am I getting memed on with these bitrates?
>>60287871
i can drum i just can't have a drum set in my house.
>>60287964
i'll try this. i just got logic. do you use the ultrabeat sequencer or record live via midi?
>>60287778
dont make each hit perfectly on beat
>>60288010
literally recorded with the worst sound equipment he could find. At least in Burzums case.
>>60288010
Which Burzum albums?
>>60288054
Well, that would explain those albums then. What about Transylvanian Hunger? It sounds fucking terrible, which is a shame because it's an amazing album.
>>60288078
HLTO and s/t. Filosofem also, but not as bad.
>>60288026
I use midi. I usually just find the sample I like then drag it around to where I need though.
>>60288010
they're supposed to sound like that. if the burzum ones were too lo fi for you, listen to filosofem. it's his best album and his most tastefully produced album
I mean, Mgla is nice and all, but those niggas ain't got nothin on Furia:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G89Uj6g3UaM
>>60288112
>I usually just find the sample I like then drag it around to where I need though.
sorry, don't mean to be interrogating you here but i'm just trying to get a good idea of how to go about this. what do you mean by sample? i thought you just said you recorded the drums. do you just record a bunch of different patterns and then chop them up and rearrange them?
>>60288081
Just listen to Darkthrone worship bands that recorded in better quality if it's that big an issue. Urgehal and Armagedda are top notch
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e03NOAuAYoQ
>>60288115
Ah ok, I didn't know that was the sound they were going for. Still, though, why? Albums like Transylvanian Hunger and Under a Funeral Moon would benefit so much from a more lush sound.
>>60288195
it's part of black metal's original aesthetic along with part of it's nihilistic ideologies. it's a rejection of convention
>>60288155
No, no. I don't actively play the parts. Logic has built in kits sampled. I just trigger the cymbal or drum I need then copy/paste, drag etc. until I get the part that is in my head.
>>60288287
oh gotcha. thanks man

Beats me. I really do think some if not most of the people who claim to like that album are forcing it at least a little bit, because they're convinced that it's somehow a brilliant work of art.
>>60288668
I'm listening to For Kunsten for the first time, and so far, I'd say that it's by far the better album. But I have no doubt there are a lot of people who will disagree.

Choose one of these, they're my top three favorite albums:
>Fanisk - Insularum

>Nokturnal Mortum - Гoлoc cтaлi

same guy. didn't know gaahl had a another band, awesome
who /feverdream/ here?
>>60295193
I'd even go as far to say it's the best thing gaahl has ever done to be honest.
there are even some bird vocals on the last track, really demented stuff
>>60295235
the latest one is their best imo
