Okay so I think that we can all agree that good and bad taste is a consensus opinion. We can agree that people who listen to more difficult music (ie music with more complicated and experimental unusual songwriting), generally dislike the music that is poppier and mainstream. People who like poppier mainstream music generally don't care about music. Therefor we can surmise that the people who focus on music and care about it more have better taste. You can't compare an athlete to gilbert grape's mom.

The problem with taste on /mu/ is that everyone (save faggot trips) are Anon, and so we have no idea what the taste of each other is really. So if we see a person liking a SINGLE pleb album, we then have to cast that single album over their ENTIRE taste in order to have an idea of what they're like. They might not even like the genre but it's an exception for them, they might have a much more well rounded taste than us IRL, but we have no idea about that.

If you're talking to someone casually, you're not going to ascertain everything about their taste from a brief conversation the first time you meet them. People usually aren't that simple.
