who are some artists they consistently give the wrong score to?
"They" who?
Beach House because they didn't give 5.0 and lower to every album by them
tame impala, diiv, beach house, kanye list just goes on
>>60190990
>check p4k for any 1930 review
>they didn't review it
fucking DROPPED
Drake they always overrate him
And they've given two Based God albums over 8/10 which is obviously preposterous
The Mars Volta
>>60191017
I came here to post this almost verbatim. Do you wanna grab coffee some time?
>>60191017
It's my dream to one day make a shitty terribly produced dream pop album and then I'll get a 9.0 from pitchfork
Five years on and I still don't understand the hype around that album and I don't know anyone who would consider it one of their favourites
>>60191142
teen dream is fucking great what are you on about
>>60191223
are you deaf in one ear or something
>>60191223
>plebs actually believe this
>>60191279
>mfw I'm deaf in one ear and I love Beach House
>>60191223
Fucking no, it has that "sunkissed" vibe that everyone fucking ate up around that time and some okay to fucking awful song writing.
It's the album that even when I was listening to it at the time all I could think is "wow this is not going to age well".
And it hasn't
Panda Bear/AnCo
Blur
Because of their personal feud with her they shit all over every album she puts out and then praises every album that sounds exactly like it a year later.
>>60191279
where was all this Beach House hate before Depression Cherry?
They would pop up every so often in threads here, mostly positive. But ever since the two albums this year people have suddenly changed their tune not just on the band, but of all their previous works that was so enjoyed by the likes of the majority here
>>60192026
>That grimy glitchy industrial lo-fi trap rap sound will never catch on!
>>60191335
do u listen to albums in stereo or mono?
>>60192100
welcome to /mu/
>>60192100
DC was so awful that it made people realize that their previous albums are kind of mediocre too
>>60192156
I mix down to mono so I can hear stuff from both channels, but that fucks with the volumes a lot so it's a bit annoying. I'd invest in some speakers but I can't blast them where I live
>>60192026
>>60192141
so true
>>60191017
>>60191142
>>60191279
>>60191337
teen dream was good, liked depression cherry but not as much, i understand why people would not like them but music taste is subjective, being praised by pitchfork doesn't mean they are bad, they guys over there like them, get over it...
>>60192187
shit man, well mono recordings are cool too, try to find stuff from the late 60's, people had mono sound systems so album where released in that format, dont fuck up your only good ear with loud headphones, cheers
>>60190990
Anything with a social justice slant will inevitably get a great review. This is not to say some aren't great, but shit like Lower Dens which was good but a 7.5 at best will always get BNM.
Same with hip hop. I'm a huge hip hop fan but the fact that any up and coming rapper who's black can't seem to get under a 6.9? Like come on. Fetty Wap, Barter 6, etc. etc. not bad albums but not deserving of the high scores they get.
>>60192026
how the fuck did kala get an 8.7 or whatever and arular get 8.5? both are at least low 9s
>>60192504
if anything Barter 6's score was way too low
dont ever compare Thugger to someone like Fetty Wap again
>>60192294
You write like a retard
>>60192640
>I'm very serious about memerap
Do everybody around you a favor and close your mouth
>>60192640
I thought 8.4 was fair.
BEACH FUCKING HOUSE
>>60191142
It's one of my favorites this decade, fuck off. I understand if you hate their music but it's their best record.
>>60190990
all black music.
>>60192690
>le memerap
most dance music gets too low of a score
Wavves and Fidlar. Their last 2 albums got such low scores. Fuck pitchfork
>>60192640
As a big Young Thug fan I think Barter 6 deserved an 7 at best, it has some of his best songs but the majority of it is forgettable
SS2 >>>>>>>>>>>> SS1 = B6
Burial
>>60192141
Doesn't the reviewer work at Buzzfeed now?
>>60190990
Fear of a Black Tangent deserved 8.0+ BNM. RoadkillOvercoat and Jhelli Beam should have been higher. They should have reviewed Perfect Hair.
tim kinsellas projects usually get pretty badly reviewed
The entire genre of metal, desu. It's rare to see a metal album that gets something other than the 7.7-8.2 range. There's a lot of variance in metal. It deserves some more varied scores.
autechre
>>60193835
too high or low?
>>60191335
>be me
>im not joking, i am hard of hearing
>i really actually really really like teen dream
>>60193381
Fidlar are terrible though? 40oz on Repeat is one of the worst singles I've heard this year. I hate it's corny-ass lyrics and its bitchy vocals.
>>60195941
Seriously, the new album is horrible
I like their s/t though, energetic and fulla jams
>>60194130
that one Tool review is one of the most pretentious, cringe-worthy things I've ever seen
I mean I guess that was the point because it's Tool, but damn...
>>60195941
> Missing the point of 40oz on repeat this hard
>ctrl+f
>no "Dr Dre"
Come on, guys, you heard Compton, right? Then an 8.5 for a greatest hits compilation? He's gotta be paying them SOMETHING under the table
>>60193996
I hope he does. Because it's a really bad review, even without the score. No insight or breakdown, just condescension and labels.
For some reason they've had a real hate-on for Plaid: not a single score went over 8 in the last decade, even though Reachy Prints (their 2013 or 2014 album) is probably their best or second-best effort.
>>60190990
Alt-J. They use them as a sacrificial lamb popular band because they have to hyperbolically pan certain bands in order to keep their indie taste maker rep in tact despite the fact that they constantly give BNM to shallow rap and pop garbage
>>60194130
Yeah this is true. Aside from randomly tossing out the occasional mean review, metal as a genre probably has one of the highest averages.
What I'd like to know is why they pissed on Kayo Dot's Blue Lambency Downward so hard. That one always seemed personal to me.
