probably more pop than prog tvh, but it's comfy as fuck. Gong is also pretty good, kinda like cardiacs+ the psych atmospheric side of pink floyd. Tvh I would say the best things to come out of the scene are probably Kevin Ayers and Robert Wyatt's early solo records but they don't really fit in stylistically with the canterbury sound

Robert Wyatt- Rock Bottom

This, Robert Wyatt and Kevin Ayers.

Is there any good modern canterbury worship albums that isn't this?
>>

I don't really like the label since I don't hear much of a characteristic sound.
According to wikipedia Comus is Canterbury (uhh).

I think it's easiest for me to single out favorite musicians involved, since there's at least significant overlap in that regard.
Wyatt, Cooper, Krause and Frith have all made mostly excellent music (well, the last has some lesser works), both in bands and solo.
Honorable mention: Cutler, whom I haven't heard enough of. Another potential favorite.

I guess I need to give this another listen. Unexpectedly didn't do much for me the first time around.

Yeah Hatfield And The North is wonderful.

This too, closely affiliated with This Heat.

Son of 'There's No Place Like Homerton' is a musical masterpiece.

Something about that album cover makes me sick.

Please delete.

Syd Arthur is a band thats actually from Canterbury and they definitely take from the Canterbury sound a lot, though they have a modern tinge too. Theyre on the more accessible side of things, so if you're cool with that, check out their album On An On.

I'm not sure if Canterbury refers the specific sound of symphonic prog that came from the area or its exclusively bands from the area, but I think this album is great

Ok, it was better this time. Kinda charming.
Started strong and ended strong, but I kinda zoned out in the middle, so I'm still not quite convinced. But I suppose the guy has a reputation for being wildly inconsistent.

So now I'm listening to this for the first time, after this thread prompted me to finally give them a try.
And so far it's pretty sweet. Had to double-check upon seeing the song run times; so wonderfully uneven are they.
Pleasant surprise to hear Wyatt on one track, and the following >>60180789 was quite something as well.
