Usually what kills a live show for me are the drummers. At least when it comes to indie rock and alternative music in general.
When you think about it, within that genre all the instruments go through so many filters and layers of effects and distortion or whatever, you can't really tell if the guys are bad players.
But drums don't have that. So it's really noticeable when the musician sucks.
I don't know if this has anything to do with the thread, but anyways.

I hate having seen Godspeed live because now their album recordings sound extremely bland in comparison.

the band could just have had a off/bad night as much as you want too and they want too have play the best show ever its hard different place every night for weeks at a time your gonna have your off nights also not every venue a band plays is gonna have the best set up for there sound
