I wonder if audio engineers have nightmares about Loveless.

To Here Knows When > Soon > Blown A Wish > I Only Said > Sometimes > Come In Alone > Only Shallow > Touched > Loomer > What You Want > When You Sleep
I've recently gained a new found appreciation for Come In Alone. The track sounds like a kaiju bursting out of the ground in the middle of Tokyo with chains and swinging weights hanging off it's back. That bit at 0:58 sounds like a bellowing roar imo.
Also really been really fond of that gentle pulsating texture at around 4:40 on Sometimes.
>>60152970
I know one who hates it because of the mixing and how it clips.

Yellow Loveless vs Blue Loveless?
I prefer yellow, but blue has a lot going for it since most tracks have a very different vibe from the original.

Yesterday I tried to write a paper to this album, but I ended up jacking off in a library. How is /shugazi/?
Does True Widow put on good shows?
Has anyone listened to Technicolor Teeth's non-Teenage Pagans stuff?
why aren't beatmakers sampling Windy and Carl and lovesliescrushing yet?

>>60156764
/shugazi/ hasn't been too active recently. I'd blame the lack of shares.

>jacking off in a library
Dude how do we stop this madness? I'm glad I'm not the only one.
>"I believe that the so-called shoegaze movement of bands is essentially just a gang of pretentious art school kids trying to create noise, but they're putting emphasis on some sort of cool, mysterious, sexy factor by obscuring the vocals and creating some hazy, druggy "atmosphere". Every one of these bands seem to have this woman in the front, acting provocatively on stage, wearing tons of makeup, and making some type of peculiar moaning tribal sex noise instead of singing legible lyrics. Underneath all the noise and obscured vocals, it's just your basic pop-rock, just pure bubblegum pop that's been peddled on your local radio station by the record company for the past 50 years. Same song structure, same basic premise at the core of it. But since there's a loud reverb-laden guitar it's so deep, so original, so creative.
>When people regard a group like Slowdive or Lush or Jesus and Mary Chain or My Bloody Valentine as the pinnacle of noise, or call these groups innovative and challenging in any way, I throw up in my mouth a little. People regard this mindless pop as noise, instead of listening to an actual noise group like The Jesus Lizard or Girls Against Boys. This shit is the reason that the development of British music has stagnated over the past 15 years, and will continue to do so."
>>60157933
It just happens I guess. I jacked off to /h/ on a library laptop
>>60158186
who said that
>>60158186
That pasta never took the quality of melodies and the way they work off one another into account. At it's worst, shoegaze is noisy pop-rock. At it's best, it's a sonic collage that allows instrument layers to take on different textual/timbral characteristics from their interactions with one another.
Do you honestly believe Radiohead, The Smashing Pumpkins, Brian Eno, and The Cure looked up to/praised an album with no substance?
>>60158316
I think it just never took off cause most of it is factually wrong, and not that many people care enough to bash shoegaze in particular.
>>60158186
>Slowdive or Lush

Kevin Shields was super obsessive about his sound. He changed his strings like 3 times a day during the sessions cause he could tell when it was affecting the sound.
>>60175471
www.polymathperspective.com/?p=2997
>>60175471
He made all the songs originally for acoustic guitar and then he just pissed about with his amassed pedals for 2 years and voila - Loveless. Seriously though it takes time and artistic vision. Kevin knew the sound he wanted and that only comes from making music upon music and having a good ear. Without those two you generally end up making a clusterfuck of a song or just something plain mediocre (look at early mbv which is by no means 'bad' but...).
>>60175828
mmm i don't think i'll ever find a bad cover of when you sleep because it's just such a good song and so simple to replicate.
http://youtu.be/-odF-y1nQvw
Is this the best song?
>>60152731
I don't particularly care for any of them. Not that it's a bad album, it's just too cohesive in approach for anything to stick out to me.
>>60158186
>it's just effect-laden, reverby pop rock
I'm totally ok with this view. Why would anyone expect a rock riff to be so deep, so original, so creative? Can't it just sound awesome and have that be good enough? Whoever wrote this sounds like a confused tryhard, calling shoegaze musicians pretentious while simultaneously criticizing the music for not being pretentious enough.
>>60158560
>>60158839
This, very much this. I was actually going to direct people to In The Depths of A Darkened Forest in the last thread but couldn't find any functioning archive links and was too lazy to upload a new one myself... but everyone should go listen to that while watching the leaves fall.

Is that a thing? I've never heard anyone say that before that rant, I've only ever heard of them rightfully referred to as fairly accessible noise rock.

>>60191245
I'm not sure what you'd consider "too metal". Overall, I've never found Nadja albums to be particularly varied, which is not necessarily a bad thing because they're decent enough at what they do. I would say that if you're familiar enough with the original songs to recognize and decide whether or not you liked the spin they put on the covers in WIStSASOTV, you'd probably like the albums listed. Radiance of Shadows has a bit more of an ambient edge to it, Queller is a bit more sludgy than normal, but these are subtle shifts within the Nadja discography.
I havent been here since /nbbmn/ started. Anything new come out yet that I may have missed? When does the Sunny Day in Glasgow drop?
Yo why didn't anyone tell me how perfect this song is? Wouldn't have put off this band for so long had I known this shit was coming.

Dream pop is such an ill-defined genre, you could make an argument that tons of albums were proto-dreampop. Was Debussey proto-dreampop? The Kinks? The Carpenters? ABBA? Hildegard von Bingen? Probably not, in any of those cases. But one could make a coherent argument for any of them that would be difficult to refute.

>>60192547
reminds me of the verve ep with fuzzier bass.
Hey /shugazi/ I’m bored so I listened to this song ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=alFvWDptUN4 ) like three times before deciding to write my thoughts on it.
So first off, there’s this intro that has these really gentle, almost ambient noises during the first few seconds before the vocals come in. And it actually take over 30 seconds before we hear the vocals come it so by that time I was feeling like the track has established this really subtle and subdued atmosphere. Then the vocals start in alone and there’s this really crystal-clear quality to it. I don’t know how else to explain it but fuckit the weird clarity in the vocals really helps add to the sunny mood all over this album. So when the rest of the instruments just go in all at once it totally breaks this mood and turns into this dance-shoegaze track for the rest of the song. And the guitar arrangements are great, the textures are shifting, and that coupled with the vocals is a serenely chaotic backdrop for a dance track. There are also bits where the vocals are reversed all throughout the song, and that shit gives this thing a whole really great psychedelic quality to it. Too bad it’s pretty much that same drum + guitar + vocal loop for like 6 minutes, with no other distinct sections to it. It doesn’t even end. It just stops, so what the fuck? Whatever. It’s pleasant anyway, but it’s still just a 6 minute loop.
>>60218812
damn son those lyrics are hella deep
