What would modern music be like if rock never happened?
>>
Bluegrass would've become popular in its stead
>>
More advanced. Contemporary pop music would have evolved more from jazz, swing, and bluegrass and would be based on modes rather than the boring format of

>still got bleeps, hip hop, jazz, funk, soul

All good tbh

That would probably happen too, but I think maybe a less religious and rural bluegrass sound would probably dominate, since it has a lot of drive, and often predictable structure, like rock.
Bluegrass that was made to gel with the youth culture of the 50's would probably suck ass though.

(Assuming there's a void to fill for energetic, relatively simplistic music like that. I don't think modal jazz would really be any more influential though)
>>
It would probably be so wildly different we can't even imagine it.

This is the only right answer

Like dial-up sounds remixed by DJ Screw

The same, but without rock.

if you seriously believe this, you are just plain clueless

wow just how short is that guy, he looks like a mouse holding a guitar
>>
How would other music styles like R&B, soul, funk, disco, house, hip-hop, etc. develop?
There might not be a direct musical influence by rock music, at least it's not as the main influence, but there's still some influence.
>>

There is no fucking way. You seriously think the most popular genre for the last 65 years being gone wouldn't affect all other genres to?
Honestly, not just music would be completely different, I bet the world as a whole would be too.

R&B started before rock.
Soul, funk and disco came from R&B
House came from disco
Hip hop came from Jamaican music which came from R&B mixed with traditional music + jazz drum breaks.
Techno came from synthpop and funk via electro.
Electronic music started before rock.

Sure, some influenced them a little, none needed rock to exist.

Rock influenced culture as a whole, I don't think you realize the enormous fucking hole that would have to be filled in its absence.
No genre exists in a vacuum, everything would change.
>>
actually good
>>
>>59608642
But the attitude/flair/swagger/whatever of rock did influence these genres.

This >>59608744 basically
