Hey guys, do you like City Pop?
Summer's coming around, and I figure I should start it with some shimmering, synth-y proto J-Pop goodness.
I remember one anon posting a blog that regularly shared City Pop music, but I'm afraid I can't find it. Anyone have any resources or recs?
Also, general summer music thread.
City Pop is literally vaporwave stripped down of all irony and awareness. I love it for what it is. Don't like it when it sounds too much like J-pop though.
I'm going to Oahu in a week and I'm looking forward to chilling on the beach listening to Pacific. Also anybody who's interested in city pop should head here immediately.

I'm just going to link a post I made a while back

Some of these aren't strictly_city_pop, but they are all J-pop from that period that lean into that aesthetic and have that sort of production values associated with it. In other words, I think they scratch the same itch.
My pastebin more or less has a section dedicated to this whole thing and I will be updating it in the future. And if you care about sharethreads at all my next one will have several city pop related releases.

More accurately, vaporware and related micro genres rehash and "borrow" quite heavily from this stuff.

Yeah, I don't mind. I feel like it gives it a much more optimistic edge to it knowing it wasn't created purely as a cynical parody of 80's pop.
It's like comparing Star Trek to Brave New World, both are about idealistically 'perfect' societies, but one is genuine in its feelings, while the other is just a bitter parody.
I'm gonna post some yt links to good songs if you guys don't mind.

this is an album collaboration between Haruomi Hosono, Tatsuro Yamashita, Shigeru Suzuki (who all did great work on their own). Also featured many other prominent musicians as guest spots.
