White people have been in the hip hop genre/business basically since it started so I don't really understand the term "steal."
Now, having said that, I do however I agree that whites should not fetishize black culture and present themselves as black, as Iggy does in her music (she uses black-sona so to speak, despite being a rich white Aussie).
Also, Azealia hasn't exactly proved her worth to me as a person through her music or public statements either. Her racist and more or less "black supremacy," in hip hop, ideals don't appeal to me.

I'm so fucking sick of Azealia Banks publicly saying ignorant, racist shit and getting away with it because she's black. Hip-hop does not belong to black people, it's not "theirs". Art isn't owned by a particular race. Obviously the genre's origins and development are heavily tied in with african american culture and history, but there's always been white people and latinos who have contributed to it since the beginning.

Iggy's not very talented or authentic, I think we can all agree on that, but when does influence and imitation become "fetishizing black culture"? If certain elements important to the sound of conventional hip-hop like your accent derive from african american culture, then why should you not be able to imitate that due to your race in order to serve the artstyle? I don't hear anyone getting pissed at lil ugly mane or more accomplished for trying to sound black, so why does Iggy deserve the flack? Just because she's popular and makes uninspired music? Also, I don't agree that "street" or "ghetto" culture from which hip-hop was born out of is necessarily black culture, though it may have its roots in the black community. I mean whites and mexicans and anyone who grows up in those neighbourhoods tends to adopt that culture naturally, so why do we refer to it as a black culture when it's only a particular culture that doesn't define black people in america.

I think "acting black" is not really just negative for non blacks but for blacks themselves.
A friend of a friend (a black guy) grew up with other black kids making fun of him for getting good grades and told him that he was white and not black. Acting "black" is often just another way of being a fucking degenerate as much as that sucks.
