Has any rap record successfully pulled off the "rapping with a live band." Because musically this is great, but the rap's a bit uninspired.

Action Bronson tried a bit of it this year on Mr. Wonderful, and there are a couple great tracks on the album, but overall it's pretty uneven.
I guess the Beastie Boys did it decently on Check Your Head, but I don't like the rap/rock combo all that much.

yeah the whole first/self-titled album haiku d'etat was a bunch of san fran musicians doing the beat. the second one (coup de theatre) is regular production, but it does feature a track with project blowed and quannum trying to outshine each other (aceyalone starts it and holy shit does gift of gab end it)
