Why is Battles Math-Rock?
If anything, they are Minimalist Rock (and that's awesome).
>>
Does anyone here know some math/noise stuff with really playful and funky groove, especially lots of emphasis on clangy drumming, similar to the grooviest parts of Thrak-era King Crimson or Skeleton Key?

Only thing I've really heard this year, I'm kind of out of touch with the youth though.

I haven't listened to her Covet yet but I love her solo stuff
>>
>>55236782
post bandcamp links to her good stuff,i just found a boring acoustic one
>>
>>55237000
Thanks bro, liking what I'm hearing.
>>
>>55237195
>>55237708
Covet is going into the studio soon and doesn't have anything released yet, all she's featured in atm is her boring acoustic stuff.
She works a lot better in an instrumental math rock setting obviously, really looking forward to hearing the Covet ep/lp and you should be too
>>
>>55237943
ah ok, cool. I'll be on the lookout for a release - the live tease on instagram was pretty neat
>>
>>55237983
Aye do so, and if you forget to I'll probably post it in future math threads when it's out

Btw more Covet here if you're interested guys (you should be)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s22dceatYTw
It's ridiculous how much better this is than her acoustic stuff

i hate headless guitars but thanks for posting, sounds nice
>>
Ok so here's an odd question. There was once a post about a guitar/drum duo who played sweet ass jams. They had a music video where it was basically just a bunch of lights on their instruments in a dark room or something.

I think they were from Australia. If not some low pop state in US

anyone know?
>>
>>55238241
Yeah I'm not a fan of headless as well...judging from her facebook page she's sponsored by Sandberg since she's been in a couple of their videos showing off their gear, she probably had to play it.
Good for her I guess, but I'm not a fan either, love the fact that she uses a telecaster live however
>>
This is a genre I've always wanted to get into because I've liked what I hear then and there, but I have no idea where to start with it or noise rock. Are there essential genre flowcharts/lists?
>>
>>55238545
What have you already listened to?
And do you prefer instrumental math, math with vocals or the "emo" side of things?
>>
>>55238545
There's probably a flowchart but I don't know it.
The most obvious ways into math rock are either punk/jammy hardcore, twinkly emo/pop or more experimental hammy stuff
What are you into? I could rec something
>>
>>55238585
Not him but anyone have any good instrumental math recs?
>>
>>55238607
Well, Don Caballero if you haven't listened to them yet. American Don and What Burns Never Returns are essential records I think.
>>
>>55238659
Sweet, thanks.
>>
>>55238659
not that guy but I'd like to add that What Burns Never Return is more free flowing and American Don is a lot more looped and layered
Both are amazing, my favorite records, but pick the one you think you'd like the most first
>>
>>55238585
>>55238594
I really haven't listened to much, just a couple Battles songs and stuff I've heard in music threads on other boards that I can't remember the names of. Sorry if that's not much help.

I don't mind emo vocals, I like Snowing and American Football.

Ghosts and Vodka is pretty good for upbeat instrumental stuff ex Cap'n Jazz

I would start with Highly Refined Pirates by Minus the Bear
Pretty straight forward song writing, real catchy, plenty of sexy arpeggios and amazing drummer.
Overall a very fun and accessible album.

Please don't post 2+2=5 bullshit, thank you

So i've seen this album posted in the emo generals for a while but have no idea what its called. The album cover is a dude pushing his hair up and having welts on his forehead. Anyone know it?

I've checked a good portion of these out in the hour since their posting, thank you very much! I'll listen to them all then listen to them all again before coming back to hone in what I like.

any love for GOAT guitar playing and tones?
