Bernard can then choose between july and august, and since he has his number (16) he knows exactly what date it is.
Albert knows it can't be a 14, since it occurs in both months, and since he couldn't have figured out the date if it was in august (15 and 17 are free) he has to know it's july.

As Alfred knows 100% sure that Bernard doesn't know it. then it can't be May or June, as those would give the possibility that the date is 18 or 19. Therefore the month is either July or August.
Bernard realizes this after Alfred's quip. As he now knows what Cheryl's birthday is, the date must either be 15, 16, or 17, as if it was 14, it could be July or August.

Say Alfred's month is August. Therefore the date could be the 15th or the 17th. Then Alfred wouldn't know what the birthday is, and he wouldn't be able to say "Then I also know when Cheryl's birthday is".
As he does say this, the month he was given must be July, as that leaves only one possibility.

Albert knows the month. Bernard knows the day. If the day was May 19 or June 18 then Bernard ould know cheryl's birthday.
Albert says he doesn't know and he knows Bernard doesn't know too, therefore it can't be May 19 or June 18. B didn't know her birthday but after A's clue, he knows it must be June 17th, since he can deduce that from A's clue.
