Sully - I Have Much to Report
I wish I could find this somewhere other than on what.cd with one seeder (it's not me, I promise) to give you an example. I'm not sure exactly how to classify it, but it's dreamy and noisy and definitely belongs in this thread. Everytime I listen to this album I'm amazed that they weren't big names in shoegaze/dreampop. If you have a what account, snatch this.

Shoegaze is like a mother's hug or womb I guess. What I mean is, it surrounds you with sound (I'm assuming you're listening with headphones) to the point of being unable to escape it. One Kevin Shields interview where he talks about the set-closing 30minute long "noise holocausts" has him saying that at first a lot of people really were hurting, but after 10 minutes the pain melts away and there's an indescribable of acceptance and numbness (and tinnitus), which kind of sums of the entirety of the genre—often un-understandable vocals and no sense of sonic direction mixed with acceptance that there are things you aren't meant to hear/understand/know.

Shoegaze basically says to me "Accept every experience, even the painful experiences, as life".

I wasn't a huge fan of the voice, thought the mixing was odd (I wanted either more vocals or more intrumentation), and thought it was a little slow.
Mainly the second one, I'm definitely into a variety of vocalists and slow music but this one just didn't catch me.

slouvaki space station and alison were my favorites. for whatever reason I guess I listened to 40 Days a lot too

exactly what I thought on first listen and now it's my favorite hands-down. some of the songs here do take some listens to truly reveal their beauty, so I'd say give it another listen and listen to it LOUD. also maybe try listening to it when you're feeling shitty, it works.

But seriously, it is good to hear of people that at least have of people with solid opinions on Cocteau Twins.
At least we agree that lazy calm is a very good song.
>>
>>55178900
Yeah, I'm not really salty over your claim, it pleases me as well that others continue to appreciate them. Here's hoping Liz gets back out there and records something. I would take anything at this point. She's been quiet for too long.

I've only heard the album like 6 times. Might like Sing more. Altogether was almost my least favorite at first listen, but I kept thinking about it for some reason, and now it's one of my favorites. Sing was my second least favorite, so maybe that will change too
>>
>>55179914
Sing is one of the most powerful songs on the album, very interesting rankings

we'll try

I felt the same way too when these started catching on, that's why I also included dreap, pop, noise pop, and blackgaze to try and expand, but i guess it still isn't as broad as the actual genre threads. but fuckit we have daily /dgg/ so it's fine

Mouse Trap is one of the best rock tracks of the 90's. The album is surprisingly diverse, in terms of guitar tone

No offense to any to of you, but what's the major appeal of this album? I've listened to it 3 times recently and it just isn't clicking, except for croatan. That's an enjoyable song.
Should I listen to some straight noise, then give it a go? advice and thoughts appreciated.
>>
>>55183335
Just listened to this for the first time yesterday and I was blown away. Definitely less noisy and more dream poppy and psychadelic than Nowhere but it's just as good.
>>
>>55184100
Was proof that Ride had talent beyond turning their guitars up really loud and staring at their shoes.

>>55183335
Difficult choice but I'll settle with Twisterella or Time Machine.

A Place to Bury Strangers - Onwards to the Wall
>Noise Rock, Shoegaze, Post-Punk, not dreamy

Pre, without a doubt. Don't get me wrong, I liked four calendar cafe and what came after, but it doesn't touch their prehiatus work. Whether that's just the lyrics or not is debatable I guess, but there's surely a correlation.
>>
>>55184030
Fade outs bother me too. But I started to accept fade outs in dreamy/shoegazey music when I began to see the genre of music as... dreams... and you often don't quite know how a dream begins or ends. It just kind of fades away for me like this dreamy music fades away too and it's perfect.

One of my favorites. You have excellent taste. Check out Pale Saints as well, if you haven't already, their second and third albums feature the same vocalist(s?). Their first album was great as well, but had a pretty different sound.

pls no bully
>>
>>55187864
I'm listening to it for the first time, and it doesn't sound much like shoegaze IMO. It's more like Skullflower and Jennifer Herrema trying to make some doom metal in a garage with a shitty audio interface.

I like it though.
