Thinking about starting a new project. Would be trying to do something like Unwound meets some rougher psych and a bit of dream pop influence, in shorter songs a la GBV. Can't think of any existing band like that. Anyone have suggestions of music that might sound vaguely similar to that to listen to to get inspired?

Not that it's a requirement, but you can't really get the most out of music written on a ton of weed for people who smoke a ton of weed without smoking some weed at one point or another.

The first 5 seconds of the track literally summarizes all of shoegaze music, in one guitar strum, it is the absolute sheer perfection of the sonic landscape, and the rest of the song is alright. But that first 5 seconds is so simple yet so brilliant, I don't even like blur that much

For Neo Psychedelic music, the music either completely apes 60's/garage/krautrock

or

goes in a more trippy Anco, Deerhunter vibe

Anyone else agree?
>>
>>55082152
what do you mean by "apes"
>>
>>55082135
charts are lame as fuck and make it so everyone on /mu/ is the same generic bullshit

pick some random albums here
tell us what you like / don't like about it
i'd rather personally help someone find music than to just give them a cookie-cutter chart
>>
>>55082170

>>
>>55082170
Apes might have been a harsh word. The bands categorized as neo-psych occasionally use steady paul mccartney bass lines and sound too much like 60's bands as oppose to take the psychedelic sound and make it their own.
>>55082185
this
>>
>>55082135
I think there is one, but it kinda fails to acknowledge how many different subgenres there are within psychedelia. Even within neopsych, you've got 'classic' neopsych (eg. XTC), psychpop (eg. AnCo), psychrock (eg. Dead Meadow), psychfolk (eg. Akron/Family), and more.

Yeah thats what i thought. I would disagree then, but I guess it depenson how you define "trippy". Mercury Rev and Early Flips and probably more introduced a unique sound. But if you define that sound as "trippy" than youre correct

I started a new neo-psych chart with what people have posted here and a couple others. What else should I add?

I have LSD that is very potent, but I am really hesitant to ingest it because I am fearful that once I am feeling the effects I will have an anxiety attack. >>55082393
I never really had bad thoughts is the thing. The anxiety comes from the intoxication and builds into bodily nausea from the anxiety. It's literally just that overwhelming feeling when you are coming up that puts me into a panic since it so intense for me.

I'll tell you what I liked/disliked about the albums I posted

The Doors s/t - I fucking love this album, in my top 10. I love Morrison's vocals, the organ and synths. The thing i love the most is probably the long instrumental parts in songs that just send me into a trip. Songs that have like 3 minutes in the middle that are purely instrumental with the organ and guitar going nuts, and then Jim Morrison comes back and the songs continues. I don;t know if that makes any sense, Light My Fire is a great example of this.

The Soft Bulletin - It's just so upbeat and makes me feel extremely happy, kinda the opposite of The Doors, but still great. I love songs that have an explosion of instruments like Race for the Prize

Innerspeaker and Lonersism - I love both, I know it's cool to hate Tame Impala on /mu/, but I think they're(he's?) great. I love the guitar and psychedelic atmosphere in the former and the dreamy and catchy synths in the latter. The two songs I mentioned represent what I like most about the Tame Impala.

hope i can get some recs, I would love to listen to more of this genre

Jimi Hendrix - Do I even need to explain? I absolutely love his guitar playing (and Mitch Mitchell is a very underrated drummer too) I dream of one day playing like him, I just love his style of playing

The Doors are one of the greatest bands ever. I know someone who has a doors book and the forward and tribute are written by Henry Rollins and Perry Farrell back in the 90's. People often attribute the Doors's music to helping found both Gothic rock and eerier parts of psych music

Also, how's this for a general psych chart

>>55084240
The bands I mentioned are all neo-psych and they deserve a place more than most of the albums on there. The psych pop chart is unrelated, I'm just posting it

Also Julian Cope, Acid Mothers Temple, Bardo Pond. XTC is actually there, so nevemind, but this chart is no good

Anyone going to Levitation in Austin? I went last year and it was amazing. Got to meet Medicine and Anton Newcombe. Saw the dudes from the Horrors chilling out under the stage.

I've yet to hear if I was approved for press or not. I did it last year and got to conduct interviews and watch shows from the side of the stage. Management of the festival changed hands so I dunno. I hope...
