Will he blow up outside of the grime scene (and the UK) this year? The Kanye, Drake, A$AP, Flatbush Zombies cosigns all point towards yes.
>>
i thought drizzy rascal was going to blow up a few months ago after he made a come back from the dead but i guess skepta is better and has more connections so yes he is going to blow up
>>
>>54966395
no because grime is terrible
>>
>This one guy constantly dickriding Skepta on here

We get it, he's been making some waves, but Yanks will never be into grime.

>>
i wish it was wiley
that dude has an unbeatable flow
skepta is pretty good and i'm excited for konnichiwa but he's not the best grime has to offer imo
>>
Although I think Skepta is great I don't think he could ever become globally popular. This isn't because his music is of a low quality or anything but because of the distinctly American bias in all music: the global success of an artist is predicated on success in America (in the majority of cases) and I don't think a British rapper will ever be very successful in America.
I couldn't exactly say why he won't -- although his accent and certain pre-established American standards of what hiphop should be and should be about seem primarily to blame -- but I am certain that, unfortunately, he will not blow up.

The entire genre of Grime has nothing worth listening to besides Boy In Da Corner.

Nice one, broheim.
>>
>>54966395

Grime will never be popular outside the UK, no matter how much UK music critics assure us otherwise.
>>
THATS WHEN I START PROMISING THE WORLD TO A BRAND NEW GIRL I DON'T EVEN KNOW YET
>>
>>54969608
Maybe not pure grime, but Skepta's been achieving overseas success in terms of who he's been working with. Grime may not become a huge thing in the US, but I think certain grime artists like Skepta could make some kind of movements.
>>
>>54969608
I'm australian and grime is popular here
>>
>>54969608
It's pretty big in Japan, and a bunch of young underground American rappers are at least a little influenced by grime (including Danny Brown)
>>
>>54967373
He started making pop music to appeal to the general public. Boy in Da Corner is his best and it always will be (that said his new EP was pretty good imo)

He also developed an English accent.

>>
>>54969608
To be fair, it's very very big in the UK right now compared to the other more "underground" genres.

The beef that's going on recently with Chip and Bugzy Malone and Skepta and Devilman has been getting quite a few views, and Bugzy's Chip diss sold quite well on iTunes. It was quite high up in the rap charts for a bit. There's potential.
>>
JME>Skepta, no-one?
>>
>>54970555
I thought Michael Jordan was taller than that
>>
>>54970951
He's a decent MC but I prefer his personality over his bars to be honest, he recycles a lot of his lyrics.

Looking forward to Integrity> still.
>>
>>54970951
His Nandos verse on Westwood a few years back is hotter than extra hot Peri Peri sauce y'get me?

BONKERS BY DIZZIE RASCAL

IS SO MAINSTREAM
>>
>>54971106
I think his personality comes through in his lyrics, when he keeps it real it's more about being a relatable musician instead of trying to be street. Serious is probably the best example of it really

How comes, Every single MC is vexed
It's like the whole point of MC-ing nowadays is to get a reload on the decks
Man will go to radio on Thursday
Even though it's his birthday
He'll spit lyrics like it's the worst day in his life

>>54971209
tbh it's alright. It's good grub and great to go to with mates but it's a bit overpriced.

everything after that is trash, however
>>
>>54971118
I swear he doesn't eat meat anymore though.
>>
>>54971426
D Double is a legend but that trim is fucking atrocious. It's not even a fade, it just goes away...
>>
So why's it all kicked off suddenly? Is there a new Lord of the Mics coming up that they're trying to promote?
>>
>>54971773
Did they ever finish Lord of The Mics? I only see the first one.
>is it live?
>is it live?
>>
>>54966395
Hopefully not, he's been shit since about 06.

>>54967180
I don't care what you say, now we're going on terrible.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VyU-iynzXEU
>>
>>54971773
Are you talking about the beef?

I think it's just taking advantage of the hype that's been surrounding grime to be honest. That and a last ditch effort from Chipmunk to stay relevant, although its completely backfired in his face.
>>
>>54971813
What do you mean did they finish it? It's been going on for a little bit, most recent one was 6th I think.

Only ones worth watching are 1 and 2 though.
>>
>>54971939
Was there a hype surrounding it before this beef? I haven't really paid attention in the last few years, but I got the impression it was slowly fading away.
>>
>>54971964
The first had a text in thing? I never see any other rounds. I thought it was like a knockout thing.
>>
>>54972012
1 had a text in thing, not sure if 2 had one. It didn't really matter since no one gave a fuck who 'won' since everyone will argue one way or the other about who they really think won.

The best clash in 1 was Wiley vs Kano (I'd say Kano won that one), Ghetto vs Napper was actually quite shit apart from hilarious moment and Bruza vs Crazy Titch was incredibly one sided. SLK vs Younger Nasty/KIdz in the Hood was also hilarious because there were some literal children in Younger Nasty/Kidz in the Hood.

2 had the GOAT clash which they might be trying to redo.

>>54971973
There's been a fucking huge hype this year.

Basically, Drake took a lyric from a Skepta track on IYRTITL, and then shouted him out on a little thank you thing for the album, implying that Skepta had something to do with the creation of the album.

Then, Kanye debuted All Day at the BRIT Awards with a huge entourage of grime MCs. He's also performed at concerts a couple times with Skepta and Jme and Meridian Dan and a few other MCs.

Skepta also released a track with Young Lord (Bari) from the A$AP Mob last year called It Ain't Safe.

Flatbush Zombies just released a track featuring Skepta called RedEyes to Paris, and Drake has a little voice snippet in Skepta's newest single, implying they've been hanging out together.

It's raised the overall public eye on grime, and with recent more mainstream grime tracks doing well (German Whip, That's Not Me, On A Level), grime's in the best place it's been in a long ass time.
>>
>>54972200
I thought they were going to put the winners from 1 against each other to get a champ, oh well.
>>
>>54972352
Nah man no one could be arsed to keep up with that kind of thing.

Devilman, Wiley or D Double E would end up winning anyway if they did that kind of thing.

>>54972298
>(German Whip, That's Not Me, On A Level)
All those are shit, only instrumental Grime is in a good place right now and no one outside of UK gives a fuck about it.
>>
>>54972470
I never said they were good, I don't really like them, I just said they were doing well in terms of sales. That's the first time in a long time a grime track has actually been able to sell.
>>
>>54972494
Fair enough.

I also can't stand how MCs seem to insist on MCing over those shitty Trap style instrumentals these days. I am waiting for that trend to die quickly.
>>
>>54972563
They've just been trying to blow. That's what was cool in America so they figured it'd work for them. It didn't because their voices don't suit the voice. Now that grime has become 'cool' again I reckon the trend will subside.
>>
>>54967373
First 2 albums are pretty good. Check out Pagans EP as well, he's still one of the best grime artists around
>>
Honestly I hope Grime doesn't blow up in murrica.
>>
>>54972640
I don't want it to 'blow up' I just want it to get recognition, so that MCs can actually get money from sticking to grime instead of dropping it in favour of shitty forced pop tracks eg Chipmunk.

He could've been so good, but grime doesn't pay, so we lost him.

Nah, not really. Dizzee Rascal's old stuff has aged horribly

Nobody in the UK & Ireland besides The Streets, Reijie Snow and Young Fathers has put out any hip-hop album worth half a shit so far this century

Skepta's at the front of the scene right now. Maybe not in talent, but definitely in status and level of fame.

Nov, Stormzy, and Jme could all blow with him though. I'm sure Jme will blow just because he's Skepta's brother.

Novelist is fucking sick, so much potential.

Know Me From is such a banger.

>>54972598
I hope so because the trend I am seeing is that MCs lyrics are actually pretty good but the instrumentals just kill the track. In a bad way. This is probably the only one which I think is actually excellent (shame the rest of the mixtape was bollocks)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QVhCrVA5_0A

>>54972762
