>charts, gear tips, one day shares will return

Good morning lads, let's have a peaceful saturday /noise/ general. Discuss good albums, share favorites, post your own noise, critque others, and above all, be comfy.

I don't get /noise/. I don't get how it managed to survive all this time, there seems to be no concrete infrastructure or community behind it.

Noise generals been going for what, 2-3 years now? On a pretty regular basis too? And in all this time, whenever I bother to check them out, I tend to see the following:

>the same 2 or 3 Merzbow albums with what I guess is the most RYM ratings
>the same 2 The Rita albums with the most RYM ratings
>that one Kazumoto Endo album
>Bird Seed
>that one Yellow Swans album
>the same 2 or 3 Gerogerigegege albums with the most RYM ratings
>the same 2 or 3 Aube albums with the most RYM ratings
>random flavor of the month shit like Kazuma Kubota or that Vomir black metal album
>excessive Bandcamp spam(despite nobody ever responding to those posters), and complaints about it
>meta arguments about the threads and who is to blame for their lack of quality

What I DON'T tend to see is any decent discussion, or any talk of non-entry level shit(not even entry-level by standards of noise but entry-level by the standards of /mu/; Le Syndicat or Lasse Marhaug or KK Null are all huge names in noise but fuck me if I've seen them here more than once; instead it's always /mu/ meme shit like Pulse Demon or TAD or Bird Seed), or any signs at all that anyone but a very small(like less than a handful of posters) here has any sort of knowledge of this shit or how it works, any knowledge that goes beyond what you see posted on /mu/ with no context or information beyond a JPEG cover and someone saying "I like this".

Like I can go on /bleep/, and those threads are pretty bad for anything but banter, but those lads are informed. They know their shit when it comes to artists, the history/theory behind the music, the production methods. Same goes for /jazz/ or /classical/, and those are not even regular generals here.

/noise/ has next to no idea or familiarity with their designated subject, but these threads somehow continue to exist. I really don't get it.
>>
>>62919225
I think thats just representative of /mu/, I feel like the majority of posters here dont really know shit about music, they are just into a broad spectrum of entry level stuff for cred, and the general continues to exist because /mu/ continually gets new users, all who pride themselves on "yeah dude i listen to noise", and they all come here and post the same shit. Im no noise afficionado, i mostly like making it and seeing it lice, gave up on looking for new stuff because the crap to worth-hearong ratio ive come across in noise genres is very crap heavy.
>>
what are some interesting inteviews/in depth discussions of artists you guys know of?
>>
>>62919434
Yeah the board largely neither knows nor gives a shit about music, but at least the genre general threads usually attract more informed people.
This is why I don't understand how /noise/ is still going, it's a general that's remained just as vapid and uninformed as it started out as. It has no basis on which to exist.
And why did it even start? Generals usually start because there is a decent enough amount of dedicated and aware listeners of a genre to warrant it, and /mu/ never knew shit about noise.
>>
>>62920031
I thinks it's still alive because of a combination of a tiny group of regular people (Xern0n, doc brown, some anons) and how easy it is to start making noise, attracting more people with a high turnover rate.

not exactly noise, but does anyone here know of any other percussion based industrial?
>>
>>62919225
I keep bringing up Le Syndicat like all the time dude, i think you haven't been paying attention

My biggest regret when I lost my music library was losing my "30 years of excess" 320kbps rips, with all of its tracks split and tagged. I think the dude in slsk who had it deactivated his account.

Anyway, the purpose of noise is to share rare releases, at least for me.
>>
>>62920238
That is actually the album I was referring to in that post, though I could have worded it better.

>random flavor of the month shit like Kazuma Kubota or that Vomir black metal album

And didn't that album got popularized by some trip here anyway? Yet another example of what I'm talking about, people in this general just have no capabilities for discovering shit on their own, independent of /mu/.

I check these threads out often enough though not every day and I don't think I've seen them mentioned once.

hello again friends

Grim is amazing, that's power electronics

Can we make a female noise chart?

Everything from pe to classic industrial and harsh noise

I'm thinking:

Maria Zerfall
Sewer Goddess
Anne Gillis
Pharmakon
Puce Mary
Junko
Diana Rogerson
Diamanda Galás

Any suggestions?
>>
>>62921075
no, that album I posted is industrial, they literally are banging on pipes or whatever in a tunnel
>>
>>62920474
I think it's because most stuff from Rotorelief and french industrial is mostly ignored around here. I'm the only one who gives a fuck about them, Vivenza, Entre Vifs.

And mostly because i'm a beggar. When i'm not sharing i'm requesting, since i don't think that there's much to discuss.

I agree with you but at the same time the boundary between PE and noisy industrial is really fucking blurry
>>
>>62921908
how is it?

, I should have been more clear
>>
>>62922778
Starts off ambient/droney with a little bit of merz influence, gradually merzbow takes more controll with loop based noise. The album is tightly controlled all the way through.

redpill me on the difference between noise and power electronics, about to listen to Hole in the Heart by Ramleh

Power Electronics: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KjAF7D4l91M

>>
>>62923660
PE uses synths and can have semblance of melody
>>
>>62923660
>PE

Heavy use of vocals, tighter and more straightforward structure than noise(in some cases almost mimicking typical pop or rock song structure), at times has rhythmic and melodic qualities.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MExUkhP-2t4

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UqB_p8a6KZY

>noise

More abstract and free-form in its construction than PE, which doesn't disallow it from also featuring vocals, rhythm or melody.

You're not gonna have a good time with PE if you get triggered easily, it's a genre that's defined as much by its devotion to extreme subject matter as it is by its sound.
Having said that, I recommend checking out Vice by Taint, The Cult Of The Young Men by IRM and Fentanyl Martyrs by Survival Unit.
>>
>>62921908
Partikel III is one of my favorite Noise records, yeah pretty fucking great collab.
>>
>>62924950
not really triggered by it, just not that interested in hearing it, what is some good stuff like that though?
>>
>>62920265
Speaking of percussion based industrial, who likes percussion and loop based industrial?

I've just started playing a 18mn long track so I wil need to get back to this in a while. But I can say I already love the artwork. I am into xerox collage and I do all my covers this way.

hi guys

just made two "noise" tracks, tell me what do you think

in this first one I just improvised, had nothing in mind to be fair
http://vocaroo.com/i/s1uAhfJfaFSa

in this one i tried to lean more onto warm drone/shoegaze/ambient noise
http://vocaroo.com/i/s07Ix6DNcSlm
>>
>>62925617
thanks for sharing this, this is right up my alley.
>>
>>62918244
if i started making noise in Audacity will I be hated? I really want to get in on it, but I don't have the money to buy gear like >>62919198

Also, I'm already in the group Budget Noise Machines.
>>
>>62932144
I like it a lot, although I've mainly been listening to we spit on their graves
>>
>>62934936
how do you make your contributions for that group?

You will if you don't know what you're doing.
