Let's have a ska punk thread.
I'm trying to get into the genre, but I don't know where else to go but the general stuff like Sublime and Fishbone.
What are your favorite ska punk bands, /mu/?

Against All Authority
but seriously kill yourself or go back to BBBBB

Pre 2000's Less Than Jake
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=36TO--mGe0E
Reel Big Fish's first album, plus a couple songs off other albums, but mostly they kept recycling shit
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yBm0SCCgKqM
And last, but not least: Streetlight Manifesto. First two albums were 12/10
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=guqQPekTxCc
and there's salvageable material on the third
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bLJcwq7Nuoc
Mustard Plug's first 4 albums are definitely worth checking out. They're the reason I love ska-punk.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c0XSq-W896g
Then you gotta start mining for second wave stuff, like the English Beat, who had a couple good albums, and some serious hits
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eREISjv0yn0
and transitional bands like The Toasters
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5CgX11yPdcY
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q3ETWZ_Wncc
that's all I can think of for now. Oh! And the Mighty Mighty Bosstones, who had a couple good albums as well. After '98, ska bands from before then just lost their mojo.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gmOmAuhAQbE
This album is barely ska punk. Sublime had like two songs that could even be categorized as remotely ska punk.
Listen to everything by Streetlight Manifesto.
Seriously, if you barely liked Sublime, you gonna love SM. It's the only godtier ska punk, everything else comes after.
>>54780375
and if you don't know Operation Ivy, you should.
I'm pretty sure this is a cleaned up reissue of a bunch of their material from various albums. Worth listening to the whole thing.

Don't let me have wasted my time. Please check this stuff out.
Every single person I know irl that likes ska turns out to be either an idiot or a retard. Why does this genre of music attract these kind of people?
>>54780375
/thread
pretty much summed all good ska punk up right here
>>54780453
The vocalist's voice bugs me.
>>54780500
It's close to reggae, so it attracts stoners, and it's close to punk rock, so it attracts faggots.
It's a decent genre, but the people that primarily listen to it are from fraternities.
>>54780527
It was my first tought. 5 minutes of straight listen got me into it.
>>54780463
>>54780375
Doing God's work anon.
OP I highly recommend you check out Streetlight Manifesto as previous anons have said. They currently are the torch bearers of the genre, even if what they play is barely considered "ska punk" nowadays.
Is anyone else stoked to see them this spring?
>>54780500
because it's upbeat, and relatively simple in terms of musical construction. There're a lot of shitty ska bands for just that reason, and also for that reason the genre died out.
>>54780605
>tfw they will probably never come back to your country
come to brazil :(
>>54780605
I've seen them every year in Baltimore for the past 8 years. Yes. I'm excited.
>>54780615
The only ska band I like is Streetlight Manifesto. I mean, I REALLY like them. But that's it, I can't get into any other band of the genre.
>>54780375
OP here, you've saved my night.
Gonna check out Streetlight Manifesto and Mustard Plug first, but I'll move into Less Than Jake and Mighty Mighty Bosstones after. Copy/Pasting this into a notepad file so I can save the links and check out the other links later.
Thanks for the hard work, anon.

soja, rebelution
>>54779944
Streetlight Manifesto has only two good songs, but they're worth listening to.
Also, Tony Rebels' Fresh Vegetable. Authentic ska, and it's great. I haven't heard anything else from him but he may be a good guy to check out.

triple dubs confirm 4th wave of ska for 2015.
Gonna post some fringe 3rd wave ska bands cause I'm a fuckin loser like that. deal with it nerds.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HCzWPBR30Nk
I could go on.
>>54780967
>implying Everything Goes Numb LP isn't GOAT
>>54780998
Forgot to mention Save Ferris. The did an awesome cover of Come On Eileen, but besides that I didn't like much by them.
>>54781012
Not GOAT, but probably their best album.
Only heard this album once, but I remember liking it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mXt4GJ8hYqU

They have the best live shows! I like how the band gets better and the crowd gets crazier with each show. I feel like Streetlight are outgrowing the venues they constantly play at around here in Chicago though. They sell out every time and the places get way too packed. It isn't until a couple songs into their set that the crowd thins out a little and you actually have space to dance.
They have the draw these days, why not play bigger venues? And I'm glad they're moving away from having 2-3 opening bands you have to sit through before Streetlight Manifesto actually takes the stage. Everyone is there for SM, not another high-energy pop-punk band. They should just go the way of bigger acts like DMB and Phish and just start and play a full set.
>>54781084
I'll listen give it a listen, but the other songs I heard apart from two of their singles were shit.
>>54781041
Some of their deeper cuts off of It Means Everything aren't bad. Very skankable imho.
Also, all this talk about Streetlight, we'd be remisce if nobody in this thread mentioned Catch 22.
Here OP, this song is a must listen for 3rd wave ska.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=syCMHtNUlLE
>>54781138
I dunno if they'll ever play bigger venues, honestly.
>>54779944
Arrogant sons of bitches are cool
>>54780413
You're way wrong
This is the first time I've ever seen Sublime mentioned on /mu/.
I don't know the /mu/ opinion but I think they were pretty great. Too bad the lead died before they really got famous, but the self titled isn't nearly as good as 40oz to Freedom.
Also catch 22
>>54782037
So much truth concentrated into one post.
>>54782037
not sure where you live but EVERYONE in LA knows sublime. probably because KROQ has been playing a sublime song every hour for the past 20 years
>>54780500
I hope you're not including 2-tone in that blanket statement.
>>54782037
>>54782159
I live in Maryland, next to D.C. Everybody here knows sublime. Everyone I've ever met who remotely gives a fuck about music or has heard the radio knows sublime.
>>54782159
I live in Eastern Canada. Nobody outside of the stoners and music fans know about them.
Anyways, never seen them discussed on /mu/, which I felt was really odd considering how many /mu/ friends I know IRL that listen to them.
Okay, gonna get a little crusty in here,

fuck off, scotty. everyone knows leftover crack was your best work.
>>54780413
>>54780413
I disagree. For the most part, Ska Punk is the best genre to class the album.
>>54779944
Slightly stoopid trust me OP
