It's the 27st of March

The point of these threads is to encourage people to look for new and interesting music. We do this by listening to and, ideally, discussing albums we've never heard before. Many of us already listen to new music daily; these people are in it to venture out of their comfort zone by listening to albums they otherwise wouldn't have, or just to have a good time.

There was interesting stuff on WarRaw, I liked how it was basically one huge track, separated into little fractions. The lead-ins were really well done. However, I was not blown away from the first spin, though. Will listen again, though. She reminded me a bit of PJ Harvey.

The thing that really made it stand out is how she used silence as a musical element a lot. I love when people utilize silence. Also her schizophrenic vocals were a real standout on my first listen.

I can see why she reminded you of PJ. Glad you liked it, hope you'll enjoy it more after several listens!

>Peter Christopherson - Live At L' Etrange Festival 2004 - The Art Of Mirrors (Homage To Derek Jarman)

To start with I listened to a crowd sound rip, not the recently released LP version because there are literally 0 rips of that.

The piece starts off with drones, bird sounds, hurdy gurdys, guitars and random bloops. It is gorgeous. Further parts feature bass hits, tambourines, glockenspiels, pianos, strings, giltchy electronics and ambient synths. It's a very diverse performance. It is mostly divided into musical sections with vocal chant interludes. It is all new but this one part.

Sex Wit Sun Ra starts playing closer to the end of the piece. No Jhonn vocals obviously but it is complimented by some man mumbling while it starts. It slowly fades into an ambient outro.

I really liked this. It felt like some sort of play. It is a dynamic piece but I really need to hear that soundboard recording for a full opinion. I'm giving it a 7+/10 because it was good but it has potential to go much further.

7+/10

It pains me that this album has been forgotten about completely. See It Another Way is a great piece of kraut- and gamelan-influenced second wave post-rock. It's really got its own sound and it sucked me in in a way that I've rarely experienced. Gonna investigate this further.

8/10.

Should I deflate my ratings next time around or is this shit just all too good?
Anyway, the Jessica Pratt album is absolutely gorgeous - unconventional melodies, good guitar playing, beautiful vocals and some of the best sounding production I've ever heard on a folk album. For some reason I get some slightly psychedelic vibes too. Very enjoyable.

>Merzbow - 13 Japanese Birds Vol. 2: Fukuro (Owl)

Owls have fascinated man from time immemorial - to some cultures they are symbols of wisdom, while to others they are harbingers of doom and death. Owls include about 200 species of mostly solitary and nocturnal birds of prey typified by an upright stance, a large, broad head, binocular vision, binaural hearing and feathers adapted for silent flight. They hunt mostly small mammals, insects, and other birds although a few species specialize in hunting fish. They are found in all regions of the Earth except Antarctica and some remote islands.

This album had surprisingly more to do with the topic of the album, The opener and the closer sometimes had screeches that reminded me of owl distress calls and defensive hisses. Mostly it was Merzbow drumming again and it was enjoyable. I like Merzbow drumming.

Between the 2 owl oriented tracks there were 2 variations that also employ drums but the noise sections differ quiet a bit. They seem to be more texture oriented. Variation 2 had a short drum-less section and I enjoyed it quiet a bit.

The release is ok, the first one was more to my liking though. I'll try to do part 3 tomorrow but I can't promise that cause airplane flights and shit.

6/10

Anyone here into Naked City?
Are the tracks with the same name on s/t, Grand Guignol and Torture Garden different versions or are they the same? Because I've only listened to the s/t and I am wondering which album to download next
