Forget K-Pop for a moment. Can't we discuss J-Pop. Just a little?

Anyone on /mu/ listening to anything in particular?

浜崎あゆみ / 『ayu-mi-x 7 presents ayu trance 4』

great album, my fave from that series was ayu-mi-x 7 presents ayu-ro mix 4 since i'm a sucker for cheesy eurobeat. love her ayu-mi-x 6 silver album too

i've been out of the loop with j-pop lately. i did like miliyah kato's last album

Utada Hikaru was one of the first musicians I ever really got into outside of my parents' influence
I cried when my friend told me she was taking an indefinite hiatus. Even now when I listen to this song it just pierces my heart so much https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cfpX8lkaSdk

Listening to 入り鉄砲に出女 (TOFUBEATS EDO REMIX) by Tartes Tatin. Unfortunately I don't have the full album, but I'mma guess this is the best song from Tetrad Enhance anyway.

Fuck off cunt, this is a music board, not a weeaboo board.
And before you start, just because this site was set up as an anime imageboard doesn't any more mean this is a weeaboo site now, than the fact that France was set up as a monarchy means it still is.
There are plenty of weeaboo boards for weeboos, but this isn't one of them.

You can claim this as much as you want and scream about weeaboos as loudly as you can but it will never change a thing. I hope this fact eventually sinks in and you stop caring so much about an image board for vietnamese wood carvings.

I love kpop and jpop
am I allowed here or do I have to be dumb and take a side

I shamefully listen to both. You don't have to pick anon, just say you only listen to Jpop

why can't I fully embrace both though, they're two of the genres I've listened to the most

Cause everyone here hates kpop. I mean admit it that's fine, but when I'm in a Jpop thread i never say I listen to Kpop - because i don't really have to tell them.

I'm pretty sure anywhere else besides /mu/ is fine though

the decline of japan and the rise of korea feels so weird
remember when japan was the hot new thing? well, now korea is better at pop idol groups, pop culture in general, actually, including apparently comic books and obviously gaming, and their general economy seems more dynamic too
>>
>>54490005
>obviously gaming
Nigga SC2 isn't that great.
>>
>>54490394
starcraft is declining, MOBA's are fucking huge there
>>
>>54490005
Korea is certainly not better with pop culture and music. It's all soulless bulshit there
>>
I really struggle to get into jpop outside of kyary, capsule, and a handful of others. I find kpop much more accessible with slicker production. there's a tonne of great japanese music that isn't jpop though

I /Perfume? here.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-S6LFaciNjk

I love the music video for this song. That's not something that i thought I would say about any modern music video, but it's just so ridiculous and funny.
>>
>>54491259
at least it sounds modern
listening to jpop sounds like time traveling to 2003 and staying put
>>
>>54492026
>at least it sounds modern
It's modern because it's chasing newest western trends and I don't understand how that makes it better than j-pop.

Japan doesn't give a fuck and just does what it wants that's why we get gems like perfume or whacky shit like Momoiro clover (which korea tried to copy too).

True a lot of it is stagnant shit but I don't see much difference between stagnant modern shit or old shit.

>Japan doesn't give a fuck and just does what it wants
and that's precisely why it doesn't appeal to anyone outside of japan.
jrock on the other hand, i'll say, is pretty accessible, and that's because it's totally indebted to western rock.

is there any good japanese stuff that has no vocals (ie it's purely instrumental)? i just can't bring myself to enjoy music where I have no idea what the fuck the lyrics are about.

Rock scene isn't normal there either.
For some reason math rock and post hardcore have a huge boom there.

This is literally the most popular rock band in japan right now.
