But did he write the music? Did he produce the tracks?

Can it be a 10/10 to "Kendrick Lamar"?

The lyrics are partially ghost written as well.

No, it sucks because hip hop sucks.

kendrick is actually a 'back to africa' advocate. he loves marcus garvey and says he has 'all the answers'

You probably still think that Michael Brown was a victim of racism and an innocent child. Perhaps you should try to tackle an officer and grab his gun. Go ahead. Do it. See how it turns out for you.

None of it would have happened without him compiling the talents other than his own. So of course it can be a 10/10 to Kendrick

i'm >>54479316 . i've listened to the album several times and i think it's good, but i prefer GKMC. what's wrong with my post? kendrick talks about marcus garvey all the time.
>>
>>54479739
I'm listening to it right now (on the last track) and it's probably the most overrated thing I've witnessed in a while. Kendrick has some serious ability as a rapper, and the production is alright, but the overall concept of the album is awful. Kendrick really relishes in the ideal of a black person who really just wants white people to bend over for him and let his community continue to be self-destructive. He treats white people as the enemy.
>>
>>54479854
>didn't even get the message to TBTB or the very obvious metaphor that is the basis for the album's title

If you think that this album doesn't INCREDIBLY OBVIOUSLY admonish glorifying "gangsta" culture, you're stupid

Kendrick's views on this stuff are more complex than KILL ALL COPS

Congrats on being clinically retarded.
>>
>>54479994
Enlighten me then because I actually want to know, what are Kendricks views on all this then?
>>54480019
I probably need to listen to it again then, because that wasn't the vibe I was getting from him, especially in The Blacker The Berry. I could be wrong though.
>>

Yes, he has credit on the composition of most of the pieces
>>
>>54480068
He should have took along a few of his buddies and stayed.
>>
>>54479982

>but the overall concept of the album is awful

Who could possibly be against the message of this album? Kendrick is telling people to not be stuck at the caterpillar phase. They should strive to become the butterfly.

Also he's being as critical about the self-destructive behavior of his own people as he his with systematic racism.
>>
>>54479437

Please envision the planet without white people.
>>
>>54480017

Not liking hip hop has nothing to do with race. I don't like hip hop because it's a shitty excuse for music and an insult to people that have talent.
>>
>>54480046
>>54480104
I realize that Kendrick is very against gang culture, and I respect him for having those views considering how he grew up, but I don't think he seems like a person who would have everyone just forget race and be together as equals. Again, correct me if I'm missing something because I really do want to have good conversation on this album.
>>
>>54480051
the inspiration for the album's WHOLE SOUND (jazz, soul, funk) are the "butterflies" of black culture, or those true, beautiful black artists who are pimped by the "cocoon" of quickly and thoughtlessly made "gangsta" rap that just appeals to suburban kids. he hates how the wrong elements of the culture are always glorified, not the artist's ability to grow amongst the hardship. the city itself is also seen as the cocoon, too.

if you just follow through the spoken word parts of the last track (Mortal Man) it's all pretty much spelled out. he ABSOLUTELY takes pride in black culture, but he's calling out some stuff, too.
>>
>>54480137
you're one of those people that I might actually think is racist because of your views on the music

sorry bro

I know this probably sounds inflammatory
>>
>>54480051
TBTB ends with "Why did I weep when Trayvon Martin was in the street, when gangbanging make me kill a nigga blacker than me? Hypocrite!" (probably not verbatim). He's criticizing the black community for trying to play victim all the time when they're also to blame. At the end of i and Mortal Man before Tupac comes on, he's talking about how blacks living in the ghettos need to learn to respect each other and unify.

Typical braindead hip hop themes, both lyrically and in the video.
>>
>>54480294
it's more the way you go about not liking hip-hop

writing off an entire genre like that is pretty ignorant

but whatever, I know enough to understand I don't really know you.
>>
>>54478998
No, is a 10/10 to Sufjan Stevens
>>
>>54480227
>>54480248
Ok, I just finished the last track and I guess that kind of cleared it up, but I still kind of hate the idea of loving a culture based on race. I never go listen to classical music and whatever other genres "white people invented" and think, "Oh wow, white culture is so great", because that is stupid and extremely backwards thinking. I guess this is the problem I have with Kendricks views.

So your issue is with subject matter, not lyricism? Any better?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UeJCCYKefdY
>>
>>54480357

Because the entire genre is the same shit repeated ad nauseam. The same beats, the same themes, the same imagery. You saying that any of that has to do with race is racist more than saying "I don't like hip hop" is.

Black pride is reactionary. They were taught to think less of themselves because of their skin color so now they take pride in it.
>>
>>54480414

My issue is with all of it.

Still lame brain shit. Still talking about the streets.
>>
>>54480392
Jazz, hiphop and funk were born this century, born out of the very things talked about on TPaB. Classical and baroque music is from 1600-1700. Is a difference not expected? Classical music is not a part of white North American culture

That wasn't the point of me using classical music, I could have used a plethora of other genres that are fronted by white people.
>>
>>54479051
Are you seriously cherrypicking this hard? How can you even take yourself seriously lol?
>>
>>54480541

Sounds obnoxious. Typical beat. Couldn't care less about them liking a girl.

If your personal struggles are that you drank too many 40s with your bros on the streets and ignored your loved ones, you need to shape the fuck up, get out of the city, and stop writing shitty rap songs.

>>54480560

Nope, not if it's being talked over shit beats.

reactionary def. "opposing political or social progress or reform."

black self luv and cultural appreciation is not necessarily or purely a response to oppression and societal hatred, these things work to deny self luv, which should be a natural state of all human beings, black pride is a vocal mvmt because they need to tackle the opposition in all its insidious forms but a black culture taking pride in itself is very natural and very beautiful regardless of context

That's not the only definition of reactionary
>>
>>54480905
http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/reactionary
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reactionary

its only used improperly by those who've misunderstod, which is fine, language develops, but its such a popular definition at this moment in time that i think its worth not using it for other meanings cos it just causes confusion n misunderstanding apart from a very obscure section of ppl who've learnt it "wrong", im sure u dont think kendrick lamar is reactionary by its popular definition
