Im just wondering, why is Death Grips stuff usually listed under the genre rap? I figured with all of the yelling and guitars and hard drums, they would listed under metal or something of the sort.

You haven't listened to much of either genre, have you?
Also, a good chunk of Death Grip's material lacks guitars anon.

>listed under rap
well, it is rap
rap music is any music with RAPPING
its not hip hop mostly, i agree, but i depends on the album
Why does /mu/ have such a hard-on for this band?

It has to be guitar driven to be metal, generally.

If you wanted to compare them to a rock genre they're much close to punk or industrial than any kind of metal.
I've heard people call Death Grips the metal of Hiphop, which isn't entirely wrong considering Zach and MC Ride are massive fans of raw black metal and it's obviously an influence

Strawberry Girls and Dope Body are pretty good.
>>54376094
i'd say punk is a heavier influence on the music, though the aesthetic definitely draws from metal. and Stefan is clearly rapping in many tracks, even if it's in an unconventional way, and the production is very much industrial hop hop.
but their intention to an extent is to defy genre, so obviously it's hard to pin down exactly
does anyone here have the skills to remove Big Sean from that pic?

rude
i always thought it was weird too. the most granular i'd get with defining death grips is "experimental electronic music"
>I figured with all of the yelling and guitars and hard drums, they would listed under metal or something of the sort.
pls go nd do not come back

KTT pls go

Are there any good metal bands without guitars?
Like just bass, drums and synths? And the synths don't sound like guitars, they just have that feel?
>I figured with all of the yelling and guitars and hard drums, they would listed under metal
This is adorable.

Ride For Revenge don't have any lead or rhythm guitars, just bass, drums, vocals and electronics.

I may be skirting the issue of genre, but I would recommend the band Lightning Bolt.

really tho
>>54376868
Is Big Sean the guy in the back? I'm not gonna do it, but it shouldn't be too difficult since it's basically just black behind him.
>>54377151
thanks anon
death grips is punk you fucking plebs
>>54377038
Botanist is black metal with hammered dulcimer instead of guitars.
>>54377124
Oh, speaking of Lightning Bolt, the Wizardzz side project is really cool. Synth instead of bass.
