I got myself an SG Junior recently for $350. It's very comfy, love the easy access to the higher frets.
>>
anyone here /bach/ ?

excuse the steel string squeaks, the steel sounds a lot better with the mic in my phone than nylon

I was planning to try and learn some Bach today but I suck. You're pretty good.
>>
>>54359919
try the prelude for BWV 997, just play it and play it until you can play the first section at full speed, before I learnt that I could barely play moonlight sonata which is much slower and pretty tame, but after I learnt that any piece I try seems manageable, took me about a month of solid practise to get the 997 though but good luck it's worth it
>>
>>54360033
I'll try.On a smilar note I have been trying to get through Asturias for a year or so. I don't practice that oftenmostly cause I usually spend the time I have on writing my own stuff but I am not that bad at playing the first section at the regular speed and the second section at half speed.

Any recommendations? The Boss RC-30 Loop Station I've heard is alright

It was okay.
Maybe think of an acoustic guitar as the ultimate clean tone guitar.
You can play things cleanly that would normally sound like a fuzzy mess.
Playing bass lines simultaneously with melodies, harmonies, open notes, big chords.

How long does it take to get doing confirmation from guitar center when buying something used from a random store? Is been two days... Do they not send shipping confirmation for some purchases?
>>
>>54360105
not the anon who asked but that's kinda my problem, I grew up never having an acoustic so I find myself playing it like an electric.
>>
>>54360146
If I had to guess, it's because they don't come only in black, white, and sunburst. Or the reputation from the 90s of being anything from just another overpriced superstrat to the realm of wannabes who played loud and wanted everyone to pay attention to them but without the skill to back it up. It's up there with the les paul in being the guitar the chuuni kid would 'borrow' from his dad and take to school and talk about how sick he was at playing it, but never did.
>>
>>54360146
Some ones on /mu/ were raped and abused by their dad's, who exclusively played blues music on flame top maple PRS guitars
So they spread vitriol towards anyone who enjoys blues, PRS, Gibson, and flame top maple

Some things with basic bass work is good for developing a feel for it (as some might say),
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mrgBDa9xDLk
but I think writing music is much more entertaining.
>>
>>54360545
That overlaps and is easily confused with people recommending gear that isn't very good and talking about it like the best thing ever getting put in their place by someone who has actually experienced the difference.

For example, yamaha makes some pretty good guitars, but it's an instant retard alert when they recommend one over about 500 dollars. Boss makes good pedals, their tuner isn't one of them.

This caught my eye and I went to San ash to try it out I got a lovely sound. Well one I liked. I tried to v20 though. Would this be a good purchase? Would it be loud enough to gig?
>>
>>54361130
I think high-wattage modeling amps are silly. For $550 you could easily get a used Hot Rod Deluxe or something else if that's not your style.
>>
>>54361061
that was essentially the context of the original post, yes. those kinds of people on here are in the minority but they're by far the loudest about their opinions so it just seems like they're the majority.
>>
>>54360530
I've owned this guitar, and mine was ridiculously stiff and hard to play. The finish felt cheap and the pickups were underwhelming.

Also the body so small it looked comical when I was holding it. That's not really the guitar's fault though.
>>
>>54360669
You might never hear this again if you don't save it.
>>
>>54361130
Those are excellent amps, if you liked the sounds, go for it, 120 watts SS is more than enough to gig with (the old saying for rock music is 50 watts SS 20 tube).

I tried a few vox amps at a local guitar shop and they all had a scratchy sound to them, like a bad speaker or cable type sound, mention it to the owner and he goes and grabs a $4000 Strat off the back wall and goes and plays on it. He literally closed his eyes and tilted his head back and went "The toooooonnneeee!" And like 4 people were watching like oh it sounds incredible! So vivid! But I could blatantly hear bad wiring and like somone was sanding the strings while he played. It was like a terrible dream and I was looking for cameras like I was on some staged reality show. I bought a strap and ran the fuck out of the store and never went back. I dont know wtf I witnessed but I imagine that guy is in these threads every day as that guy who goes apeshit livid at anyone using a non fender custom shop strat/tele and talking about tonewoods and tube amps

I didn't say anything about SS amps. JC-120s, Quilters, and the like are phenomenal amps, but modeling amps at higher volumes tend to sound phoney.

I have a roland MicroCube. It's a ton of fun and for running on batteries, it sounds great. But would I buy the 80w Cube over a a low end tube amp? Probably not.

Holy profit, batman. The cost for the manufacturer to increase the power of a solid state amp does not merit tripling the amp's cost.
>>

It depends a lot of variables. Speaker efficiency is a big one people forget about.

That being said, I play shows with my DRRI and that's 22w

Sweetwater now has 36 month financing with 97 percent interest. What a deal!
>>
>>54361816
I was just about to ask about sweetwater. They don't ever seem to carry any of the brands or models I look at and dat financing.
>>
>>54361758
Yeah.

Can you play clean over a moderately hitting drummer at band practice? Barely to no, unless you're running a bunch of efficient speakers.

The same goes for live and unmiked. That's a big no go recommendation from me.

20 watts is a good in-between practice and jam amp. Super manageable and you can wind it all out without pissing bandmates off.

it is a righteously awesome pedal.

I lol'ed.
PRS's are owned by guitarists who want to become something or by guitarists still looking for recognition/attention. Again, look at their user list.

Step it up nigga, I've been playing on a GRG70 for almost a year, the vintage tremolo is busted and I can't set it up, I can't put any string thicker than 46 if I want to tune to E, and I paid 100€ for this shit.
>>
>>54361130
For that price you could probably get an AC15.

Unless you want heavy tones.

It's called djent dad, and it's the most technical genre ever !
>>
>>54364647
Squier strat, basic Peavey (or a Roland cube if you want some inbuilt effects to fuck around with) and a pair of decent studio headphones is all a beginner needs.
>>
>>54365034
>>54365260
Thanks, friends. Do you guys think the strat or telecaster is better? Are the differences in sound significant or is it mostly looks?
>>
>>54365182
>epiphone aren't a real brand

more models exist than les pauls and sgs you know
>>
>>54365332
Telecasters are pretty dope, but if you want a trem I'd suggest a Jaguar over a Strat
>>
>>54365332
There are significant differences, you can look up a few examples or look at what musicians in your preferred genre are playing.

When you get down to it though, all a beginner really needs in a guitar is something that stays in tune and can be intonated correctly. As long as you're not fighting your gear, you'll be able to learn.

Get a vt40; versatile and loud enough, and price wise it is around the sweetspot, the 120 its just an 80 with an extra speaker and doesnt justify the cost.
>>
>>54365561
joke's on you buddy, I work a lot less than that and I already want to kill myself!
>>
>>54365332
I wouldn't say one is better over the other, they're both pretty versatile guitars. like anon said though>>54365402 as long as it stays in tune and is correctly intonated. I prefer strats to telecasters but that's just a personal preference thing.

Just got this from GC
"The SG you placed on order with us was returned from another store because of heavy damage it took in shipping. It has cracks on either side of the neck into the wood going down below the pickguard. The guitar seems to hold up, and if you are still interested let me know so we can ship the guitar out to you. Otherwise I can cancel the order and the funds will be returned to the original pay type."

It's an SG Standard for 570 bucks. It was listed as cosmetic damage only. What do?
>>
>>54366098
cancel that shit immediately my man

thats about the level of care I expect from GC at this point
>>
>>54366098
You cancel the order. I'm surprised you even got something because usually they just send busted shit.

Well if the guitar seems to hold up and the cracks don't effect the tone, shouldn't I still get it?

I don't really want to settle for a used SG special

Well I normally Avoid /mu/ but this thread seems pretty chill. Question guys, actually two.

One is does anyone by chance know the input jack specifications for a Talman TC530? the nut on mine has fallen off long ago, and I can't seem to find the correct size since standard jack nuts don't seem to want to fit or work. Googling hasn't helped here.

Second question is, I'm having a huge fit of GAS right now and am looking into buying a cheap 7 string and replace my (strangely) Broken Fuzz Factory clone. Does anyone know of an individual who might be selling a clone of the FF for cheap? I tried looking on ebay and theres one for 80 up there but I was hoping for something more along the lines of 60. I might be asking too much.

going to keep searching around but people here might know of some more independant pedal builders and such.

Also who else here buys way too many fuzz pedals? I just can't seem to stop trading and buying new fuzzes away. the only one that's stuck with me for this long is my Hyperion which just blows me out of the water everytime I hear it. Love that thing.

the only reason its in storage is because my family and I were moving out of state, not because i lost interest. so dont project your depressive life style on me cunt.
>>
>>54366193
definitely no. I wouldn't buy a guitar with cracks in the body for any price. check Reverb for SG's. just doooooon't buy a guitar that's already broken. body cracks are not good and if they're still trying to charge you the original price on it and it's been damaged and treated like shit they're trying to scam you.

Just change the jack, they cost like 2 bucks
>>
>>54366227
Re: the nut - no clue. it may be easier to just replace the output jack itself. If you know how to solder, it's a pretty easy job, or you can find diagrams.
Re: pedal - you'll have a hard time finding one for $60 from an independent builder, because you'll end up toeing the line of boutique pedals, and there's always someone who's going to ask for a couple hundred for simple pedals. you could look at something like BYOC, but again you need to be okay with soldering.
