The other day we had a long debate over whether Lalo Schifrin was dead or not before wikipedia solved it. We assumed he was dead for years based on hearsay and because we never heard anything from him until I saw him in a newspaper article advertising a Barbican concert.
One that hit me particularly hard was Michael Garrick. I was halfway through discovering his back-catalogue and expecting to see him in concert one day because he wasn't that old in jazz terms (77) but poof just like that he died one day. And of course Horace Silver went not long ago.
