Post the tracks you're working on, discuss general music composition (no derailing). Learn whether it's ok to make music without beats and how to turn Plantasia into a drinking game

Remember to use:

>that's it
Anything goes, feel free to find anons to collab and have fun with in any way you want. Or just work solo.

Respect to anyone who can pick the samples.

In a good way or a bad way? Because right now I'm taking that as a compliment.
>>
>>53786546
idk it feels like it's not in tempo with your song. it's slowish and really muddy. EQ the livin shit outta it m8.

Do you guys have any tips for using a saturator/getting a tubey "warm" (as much as I hate the term) sound?

I've got a part, I'm using a bell/mallet sound with FM8, but it sounds too clean. The rest of the track is mainly samples, so I want it to fit in a bit better. I want it to sound more organic, if that makes sense. The playing is fine, and it's velocity sensitive and all that. I just want to add some effects to make it sound like sampled almost? I can't explain.
>>
>>53786688
Put saturator on track and add a low pass filter.
>>

>tubey
ableton has a built in effect called the corpus which is great for mallets and bells and i use it for getting tubey effects on my synths

Using a little bit reduction can get you a sampled sound. Or you could just try actually sampling it. Record one hit (with reverb or whatever). Cutting out the hit and putting it into a sampler. That way reverb tails will get truncated and stuff and the tone of the instrument will change up and down the keyboard.

You could also try soloing it, sending it out the speakers and recording it for a little ambiance and noise.

If you just want to distort/saturate/Eq I personally think warmth comes from saturated mids and highs but with a rolled off high end (5kHz+).

theme for all rumpsniffers

I think he meant vacuum tube not like it's coming from the other end of a PVC pipe.

Abletons Saturator and Dynamic Tube and Amp (especially Boost IMO) are pretty good for that tho.

Thanks m8s.

Is anyone interested in doing a collab type thing by sending an ableton set back and forth just using native instruments and effects?

It wouldn't be too serious, we'd try not to take it too personally if someone fucked with our settings because that's kind of the whole point. Seeing how other people do stuff and seeing how the track morphs.

I don't really care about genre and stuff.

>>53786845
sure thing m8ron. that actually sounds like fun.

this immediately made me think of the snes killer instinct theme for some reason

Should we just post the files in these threads? Who wants to go first?

Yeah I can kinda see that. I never got to play this game, it looked sweet with its robots and ice men and black chicks with green unitards up their asscracks.
>>
>>53786477
this sounds like some kind of industrial to me more than hip hop.

>>53786890
let me scavenge through my abandoned WiPs folder see if I have something I can post that doesnt sound like complete shit. though if you already have something in mind put that shit right up

Nothing really in mind. I'm kinda doing a little something now. It doesn't have to be very fleshed out.

Muh late night programmin interfering with muh late night /prod/ucin.

Does /prod/ into VisualBasic programming language? It'd be interesting if anyone else here lets their programming knowledge affect their bleeps.

because youre a bitch thats why
>>
>>53786959
upload it ALL
>>
>>53786688

you can't use any old saturator

get a plug that does even ordered harmonic distortion

any emulation of SPL Twintube is a good start, or something out of nomad factory blue tubes series

don't overdo it

FM8 is great for many, many things but it has a tendency to sound clean and digital!

>>53787356

good shit, i like the idea and sounds here

too much upper midrange content

lacks sparkle
>>
>>53787439
heres a new version with lower mids then
