I'm trying to recreate 'Skeng' off London Zoo, that is my project for the day. I'm really digging it.

Any tips?

Yeah I was planning on building analog only but shit starts to get expensive real quick and I am currently broke and nojerb. So I'm gonna work hybrid as I already have an arduino.

Really excited but an oscilloscope seems like a necessity and they're just so much monies.

Yeah you definitely can't proceed without one. I recommended this before in another prod thread, sorry if it's redundant but I figured I should post it.

yeah well either that or a software oscilloscope on the computer you already have and an audio interface that you also likely already have

Haha yeah I'm the same anon that already has the book but was put off by the cost of the kit.

I'm basically using the bill of materials for the noise toaster as a starting point, and slowly sourcing everything out. Just wish I had something better than the markup machine that is radioshack locally.

Ah fuck I hadn't even thought about that. I do already have a 2i4 and a mbp so that would be a huge money and timesaver. Is there a program that you would suggest?

>>
>>53641825
Lemonbro here. You got an appletosh or a windoze? If you work on a Mac I'd suggest one of the Faber Acosutical apps. Something like Signalscope or Signal Suite should be fine if you're just generating signals. Not too familiar with electroacoustics apps for PC

>>
>>53641876
>Signalscope
Is there a 100$ justification in the differences between Pro and notpro?
>>
>>53641967
yes, but only if you need those feautures. if you just want to generate scientifically precise signals, get the little $20 deallie. if you want to be able to run all kinds of electroacoustic tests, measurements, and analysis just upgrade. I own the flagship Electroacoustics Toolbox app and I use it everyday. Also I think if you buy small you can upgrade to the others without paying the full price. Check their website as opposed to the App Store, it's a better way to buy.
>>
>>53641876
Also Lemons: you don't happen to know of any electronics surplus stores in the area do you? Even if it's out west as fuck I'd consider checking it out if it's a good selection of shit.
>>
>>53642034
Ah shit alright I'll definitely do that. Seems like a respectable business model.
>>
>>53642044
The only one I know is You Do It Electronics in Needham.

>>
>>53642060
I'm not 100% sure about that, just double check before you buy. I'd hate for you to buy the $20 app, want more features, and then have to start all over again

Ahhh yeah that's what somebody else suggested. Definitely planning on heading up some time when i've got the money. I have a feeling it's going to be like the first time I went to Microcenter just completely unable to contain myself. Buying shit I didn't need left and right.

Also it seems like there may be a third massfag who frequents /prod/.

Yeah it looks like I'm going to at least need Signalscope. Still though 50$ is better than having to go drop 200$ or so on a physical scope.

That said I still want one some day. It would look so sexy on my desk.

oh shit there are 3! Where you at anon? I'm in plymouth county.
>>
>>53642256
Keep an eye on CL and shit for oscilloscopes. My friend has had like 5 of them because he grabs them at yard sales in the "free" section of craigslist. Then he gets sick of having junk and he gets rid of them. They're generally obsolete as fuck so they aren't really hard to come-by if you're patient.

Signalscope is fantastic. It generates signals but also gives you some good analysis tools so you can watch what signals are doing. You'll want to download soundflower if you don't have it. It's a virtual interface that runs in Audio/MIDI setup with the rest of your hardware. It'll allow you to route your DAW or music playback or quicktime or whatever you want in and out of Signalscope, so you can look at you synth patches and shit. Plus you'll be able to route your signal generator out of Signalscope and into a DAW or the like.

Never really understood why would anybody do such long tracks in 2015. Nobody gonna listen to them.

+ I'm working on this: https://clyp.it/oupfvlka
>>
I'm a student with literally no experience with music and have never performed music or done anything remotely musical in my life outside of recorder lessons when i was like 8.

If I applied myself, could I pick up music and create something, or is creating music something that should come naturally and maybe it's not for me?
I'd certainly give it a go though
