Posting in a quality thread.
Stretch 1 and 2 by Arca is something that really hooked me after quite a long time. I've been listening to Autechre for a long period but eventually got bored by its overwhelming predictability and generally unjustified pretense. Aphex Twin past 95-98 is nothing but a joke (come on, face the truth, that shit is really crocked and overhyped for no apparent reason).
So this Arca guy just did it right and brought sound design and beat programming back to where it belonged (not the case with Xen, unfortunately)
Take a closer look at this guy, he's kind of one of a kind (excuse the pun).

xen was a step down, definitely
also, a little excerpt from an interview on how arca makes his sounds
> Using another program, called iZotope Iris, he takes the sound of a lawnmower, cuts a random geometric shape out of a graph of its composite frequencies, outputs a new sound that sounds like a choir of cooing lemmings. In Ableton, he isolates a small, bulbous waveform on the timeline and copies and pastes it several times, manually constructing a beat. Quickly, though, the composition starts expanding at a rate that I cannot follow, graphically flowering across the screen in what looks like a minutely complicated urban grid. Suddenly, True starts moaning inconsolably in the garden—“She’s doing pitchbends, too!” Ghersi exclaims—and I realize something: he hasn’t even been listening to the track as he is making it, because he already knows how it is going to sound.

>how arca makes his sounds
He realy has gift to it, I could tell it from listening to him for the first time cause the beats sounded like nothing I could come up with.

Arca is amazing. Xen was great IMO, but leaned on the ambient side a bit, which is great, but not as mindblowing as his other stuff. He finds sounds and melodies that seem to he from another world, I don't know how to explain. One of my new favorite artists. Also sampling lawnmower sounds god damn.
>>53598576
I'm really glad that he worked with Kanye and Bjork. Regardless of your opinion on Vulnicura and Yeezus, you can't deny this guy did a great job and deserves to have his name out there.
>>53598444
as much as people shit on PC music, the sound design is unique and on point.
Great synch of audio and visuals.

That shit is beyond imagination.
I'm not even asking what is this fabric stripe thing.
Might not quite be what you're looking for but Tim Hecker might satisfy your texture craving. Jefre Cantu-Ledesma as well.

Lol, this guy began producing some lo-fi sampled jazzy tunes with amen breaks back in the 90s and grew up to this academic sonic sculpting. I do envy.

Sounds like some 19 y.o. kid who found the patches Autechre used for their LP5 and just started fucking around with it just for the sake of "cool sounds". Really weak stuff.
>>53599305
>>53598444
dang i'm actually thrilled to hear this
If you're into earlier minimalist drum&bass type of stuff I highly recommend this gem.
As the name implies it's all about good design and precise drum programming and also a good sense of balance between composition and sound aesthetics.
Will up on request.
