Posted this before, didn't get any feedback.

Thoughts on instrument choice/progression? Any tips on using vocal samples because this track is practically begging for one
>>
>>53428809
I like it, reminds me of an Autechre track, you don't need any samples.
>>
>>53428809
if you use any samples dont make them very long. quarter of a bar on a few offbeats is all you need
>>
https://clyp.it/bbkxwtfm

So I've been working on this on and off. Real glad I could finally get past the transition wall I had hit. Thoughts on the mix/production/anything in general? Still trying to link the parts before and after the big silence; not sure how to progress there.

I don't really know where to go with this track. I had a solid beginning, but I just can't get past what I've got here.

I'm pretty proud of the percussion though, I made it all from tapping shit around my garage.

Oh, and the vocals are mine too.
>>
>>53428927
I was thinking of doing something like in this track

>>
>>53428992
>>53428952
i'll listen to these a bit later
dont go anywhere qts
>>
>>53428952
Sounds good, maybe try using a second instrument to help make the melody stand out a bit more

>>53428992
I'd bring it down to just the vocals and percussion then build up to a big finish, add a few synths that play longer notes and some harmonised vocals for example, otherwise it sounds really, really good, do you have a soundcloud?
>>
>tfw suck at mastering

feels bad
>>
>>53429142
I swear this is becoming a meme
>>
>>53428952
man I don't know why but listening to the clyp right now it sounds like a fuckin mess after the first few sounds get added in. Damn suddenly I don't feel like working on that track anymore; still wanna hear what you guys suggest.

>>53428809
This sounds quite finished and I really like it a lot. The track is definitely begging for a 'final master stroke' to bring it to life. Vocal samples can work but don't over do it, like using it only on the 'climax' of the track. It doesn't necessarily need to be that, tho; could be something else. Experiment with different things.

Yeah, I do: www.soundcloud.com/brendyman

Thanks for the feedback, btw

I like the atmosphere a lot, feels nostalgic. TBH, not a fan of vocals but I guess im not in general

good job, it needs a chorus though, or a big like WOAH part

what should I do with this: https://clyp.it/1ays0g0w

very work in progress dance pop song

trying to nail down a sound

FEEDBACK PLS

>>
>>53428952
the low end seems really messy and the detuned synth youre using as the lead sounds really suffocated.

some low reverb on the master cha-nnel (fuck you moot) would really make the track breathe

>>53428992
needs a climax or some kind of resolve to it
sounds good so far
>>
>>53429319
I would add some simple percussion and maybe some more ambient noise, I really get like a rainforest/creek vibe from your song, that may be a good place to start.

Maybe have a listen to some Hiroshi Yoshimura for inspo
>>
>>53429471
Any time signatures for that percussion?

hmm like what? maybe stereo widened rain sfx?
>>
>>53429419
why so quiet?
its like the volume is on 8/100 or some shit

the track is alright i guess, its just a dance track with some roboty vocals. the synths could be a little higher quality and less cheesy tho
>>
>>53429419
the synths sound really thin , the songs ok
>>
>>53429108
>sounds good
That's a real relief, I hope you meant it. Thanks for the suggestion, I was thinking it sounded kind of buried too. I will see how I can apply it.

>>53429463
Thanks so much! I'll try that. I'm still a noob; how exactly does the reverb give the track space, though? Like what does it do to it. The low end (kick) is sidechained with the hihats. Looking back at it, it sounded cool but I think I have to turn that off when the track gets going with all the different sounds cus I think it throws the rhythm of the track out of wack to where it sounds like a mess.
>>
>>53429471 I like this Hiroshi guy, what are some of his works?
>>
>>53429570
reverb makes it sound like its in a bigger area thus giving it rooms

idk its like how the ears perceive size or some shit
>>
>>53429573
I've only listened to his album titled 'Green', found it on a sharethread a while back, you could probably dig it up if you searched the archives

Made a thread for this but realized (and someone suggested) this might be the place I should look out for
just copypasting the text:

Anyone currently learning to produce in ableton willing to team up with me?

I already know most of what there's to know about theory (still need to polish my synthesizing and EQing skills, among some other specific stuff) and I strongly believe that having a partner to learn along wth works wonders on the process

I'm open to literally any kind of style so don't worry about that

So, I don't know if there's anything else worth mentioning, but if there is I'll gladly do so
>>
Im split between 2 directions to go with this track

im not sure if i should go down the experimental dance music road with the VIP track with the giant intentionally clipping kicks and overwhelming wall of sound or the slow build up ambient road with the 6 minute build up to a climax at the end

the VIP is still in a development phase but the original is almost done at this point

im not sure which to go with (i'll probably go with both tbh)

There is nothing outside of yourself that can ever enable you to get better, stronger, richer, quicker, or smarter. Everything is within. Everything exists. Seek nothing outside of yourself. Think lightly of yourself and deeply of the world. You must understand that there is more than one path to the top of the mountain. Do nothing that is of no use; and from one thing, know ten thousand things.
>>
>>53429647
god dammit forgot the link to the tracks

>>53429491
With ambient you'd want to stick with 4/4, every odd beat/every fourth beat should have a kick or tom-tom, something with some low end, other than that just see what works, tribal instruments sound good when you're trying to keep your composition minimalistic.

Rain, water gurgling, bird sounds, wind rustling trough trees, don't go overboard but try painting a sonic picture, although I don't want to decide that for you, what's important is how the song speaks to you personally

>>53429730
Any ambient stuff that I've written was after long walks in silence, maybe you just need to be in the right mood?
>>
>>53429634
Bro I'm still a bit ass at abletonning but I'm definitely looking to get better at it by spending more time in it. I know how to work compressors, synths and EQs. I'm down but I wont be able to start right now cus I'm about to go sleep. We could exchange contact info.
>>
>>53429724
It is difficult to understand the universe if you only study one planet. Perceive that which cannot be seen with the eye. All man are the same except for their belief in their own selves, regardless of what others may think of them. To know ten thousand things, know one well.

Sup /prod/, charity collab guy here again

I know some of you hate these updates but I got something good for ya.

We now have mike paradinas, aka uziq, headmaster of planet-mu on board! Stay tuned for more cool artists!

If you've missed my recent spam, this is a compilation project where every contributor gets the month of February to make and submit up to 15 minutes of material, an EP or a track, whatever you like. In March it will be compiled as a pay what you want release on Bandcamp and all proceeds go to doctors without borders! We have about 30-40 artists of all kinds and take any genres/styles. Just make something and submit it before March 1st.

Email me on mikewestaudio (at) gmail if you have any questions or need more information. Also check "project1ep" on facebook for updates as we keep going.
