Talk about what you use to listen to your records, tapes, mp3s, whatever. Show off, discuss and talk about what makes your music sound so great.

I've changed a few belts before, this is a reel to reel I have. needed some restoration when I got it
>>
>>53399866
it was like when we opened it the belt was kind of melted and we had to take it out with a q tip and a knife. thing is though Otari doesn't make these capstan belts anymore so its like trial and error. is there like a diagram where you can figure out how to get the belt on?

What happened is the rubber "devulcanized", so it turned to goo/tar. It's happened to me so many times and its a bitch to clean up.

what you need is a SAMS photofact. check out the site and punch in your model no# for a schemeatic if they have it.
>>
>>53400031
nah they don't have it :/ i was thinking though to get a basic diagram of a tape machine and compare the two or whatever, trial and error. was a sweet deal though, traded a DBX compressor for it, they used to run $1000 plus in 2003

general statement, if anyone needs repair advice let me know, I might be able to help you out.

carrying on with more gear:

a 1971 Magnavox console. Built in speakers are muddy, but decent. I usually hook these up to external speakers and it sounds great. Recapped it a few years back.

p-please just tell me that your record stack is less than 4 records high
>>
>>53400416
If large cabinet speakers sound tinny, does it mean the receiver does not give enough power (receiver isn't great) or that the speakers themselves are too blame? Unfortunately these speakers seem to be solid wood so I never was able to take them apart.

Even if they are solid wood you should be able to unscrew the speakers?

Tinny could be a speaker crossover issue or an receiver output issue. If headphones out sound ok on the receiver it is probably the speakers.
>>
>>53400521
yep

currently swapped out for a kenwood ka-405 though
>>

>>
>>53400559
I meant to say amplifier, but it's like a 20 dollar new one I got just to test the speakers since I found them at goodwill. There are no headphone outputs.

I'll probably end up getting a good receiver soon so I will be able to use speakers instead of headphones. There are no visible screws on the speakers, they look as if someone used wood glue instead of screws. The cover on the front doesn't seem to come off either.

I posted this in another thread earlier, I want to get into record collecting and my parents have these three turntables lying around collecting dust. I'm gonna pick one to take with me while I'm in town, they are a Dual CS505-3, a Phillips 312 and a Pioneer PL-5160.
I have speakers and an amp ready for it, just no idea which one is the best.

Just replaced the shitty chrome bridge on my MIM Tele with a American brass bridge.

Night and fucking day, plays ten times better and sounds a thousand times better, tuning is SLIGHTLY less stable but negligible unless you're bending a ridiculous amount, could be because I haven't finetuned it yet.
