Reminds me of a nightmarish form of ICP instrumental tracks. Noise and dissonance does not equate with experimentation and interesting artistic direction. Pretty much unlistenable after a minute.
>>
>>53364996
It's not that noisy and dissonant. It's hardly melodic but there's nothing that wild. Thanks for the feedback though.
>>
>>53364933
My only critique is that some of synth plugins sound a little cheesy. if you tighten those up with a more cohesive aesthetic (Think the difference between Neon Indian and Baths), I think you'll have more wholly original track that sounds less produced.

I will take ownership for a lot of the negative feedback on this thread. I apologize, I've been drinking. However...

I get a sense of some of these threads as circle jerk and promotion. I feel like every posts their tracks in the hopes that someone will them why they haven't quite made it to record label land yet. Or hoping that someone new will actually listen to it or sit through it.

So there you go. I'm a reviewer for a larger online magazine, who occasionally posts music in these threads. I wish they were more productive.

do mean less generic? because I want to have the strongest, fullest production quality I can
and yeah, I'm always trying to make my synths sound far removed from the presets but I'm still a novice haha. hopefully the stuff on Pawing will showcase more development (which is like the whole point of the album)

You only have to commit to listening to one track because that's all we have. Enjoy.

>Indie, or something. Who cares.
>>
>>53365125
Well, both. The generic presets also tend to sound too manicured, especially for Indie music. I would try some weird effects on the presets as well. Maybe even distortion or pitch shifting. But I would try to get away from the sound. No one wants to listen to something and picture a guy over a laptop with Ableton or Logic open.

Actually thought this was very good, or promising. from what I'm hearing. Lot of strange chords. Vocals can be pitchy at times, but I don't mind the baritone. It runs the risk of being a little too self-serious at times.

Also, Absolutely abhor the percussion. A real drummer would open up the mix.

I like the songwriting. The lyrics are a tad repetitive for my tastes, and please let up on those god-awful midi keyboards. I think if you exchanged those Yamaha keyboard presets for interesting plugins of modeled instruments, it would sound ten times better.

Thank you.
Completely comprehend the criticism.
But what makes you think I may not be a real drummer?
I believe you can't tell on this one, and this bugs you, because the percussion used is mainly sample based, or at least, artificially cut together pattern-wise.
At least four of the tracks on this EP have been made using real drums, played by a real person, allthough you just might not notice, since the atrocious and clumsy production.
>>
>>53365199
Well, coming at a time where Meredith Graves has free reign to write and sing whatever the fuck she wants, your band will probably succeed. It's undoubtedly well put-together, and sounds like the very best of the genre. But it's also derivative of Blonde Redhead and Melt-Banana, which I'm sure your fanbase won't notice.

Good luck in future endeavours.

I swear i'm not trying to be a dick, just trying to bring a bit of honesty to these threads, but this is actually a lot less listenable than the other shit. There's nothing interesting or appealing about it, for me at least. Internet Boyfriend is pretty cool though. I think you're way better at making pop than whatever this is.
>>
>>53365721
I respect that opinion no worries, I mean I obviosly had a compositional vision in mind that doesn't sit right with you. A part of me wanted some people not to really vibe with it because I wanted to have a really strange, hard to describe vibe, your heard the album so im sure you know what I'm talking about.
>>
>>53365757
aka, not really super "listenable" but more cerebral/cathartic for me to trip out too.
>>
>>53365757
i think i can see where you are coming from and that it's just not for me. originally i thought it was just kind of shitty music but after listening a bit more i think i 'get' it. this might be one of those things that i hate initially but can turn into something i really like. that happened with current 93 for example. anyways, internet boyfriend and baby i'm an anarchist are actually fucking great pop melodies. inspiring because i'm in the middle of writing a pop album.
>>
>>53365765
I also understand this. When I was doing a lot of hallucinogens I made a few songs to trip out to. It was almost spiritual.
