Why do all guitars look like their straight out of the 50s or are gaudy shit? Is there good contemporary guitar design?
>>53360452
*they're

everything u need to know
my 1998 mim squier tele works great for me
>>53360499
he clearly is talking about the visual aesthetic
i like the G&L F series. came out in the 80s. guess its not worlds different than other guitatrs though. not that it really matters as long as you like it
>>53360514
bitch please
All guitars look like gaudy 50s shit because once they were made in the 1950s, we just stuck with it. Now the word "traditional" is a virtue for a guitar to possess
ya feel?
the latter part of the video discusses this. i gotchu if u meant how the fuck the start relates
Where could I get someone to tab me a guitar song?
I've got a sick melody song that needs to be tabbed.
>>53360574
try a /gg/ thread
>>53360452
depends i guess. shit like parkers and EGC are funtionally very good guitars. you just may or may not like the way they look and feel
>>53360626
/gg/?
>>53360574
If I've only used tabs like 3 times and could comfortably tab any song pretty sure you can 2 faggot
>>53360732
different guy; guitar general Im fairly certain
>>53360452
Someone needs more quirky in their diet.
>>53360499
>squier
>great
>>53360452
maybe try some more different boutique places? i mean you'll have to sift through ibanez and fender clones but there is some stuff out there
>>53360986
not that guy but they are. for the money that is. what youre paying for with more expensive stuff is more "expensive" woods, hand craftsmanship, and better quality control
This is going to be my next.
Haven't decided yet if I'm going to keep my Strat as well or sell it to cover the cost of the G&L.
>>53361049
Yuck
>>53360986
>voluntarily overpaying
lel
>>53361044
well i wouldnt say you reach the electronic ceiling with squiers. i dont think any of them come with nice caps but they are really solid in most cases. nothing to shake a stick at maybe save the bullet and the affinity line
If youre talking about body design, there are people doing their own thing, but honestly they either look cool or complete shit.
about tone woods, for me it more about the difference in feel. a neck and fretboard made of maple feels different than mahogany and rosewood/ebony.
my les paul is a lot more darker sounding than my strat with humbuckers and there are reasons.
in the end, its your money, buy whatever the fuck you want.
>>53361515
>and there are reasons
yea, they are different sets of HBs and pots
>>53360452
Second question piggybacking off the op. Why don't guitar companies integrate more tech into guitars? I doubt it would be hard to add something like a resonant multimode filter onto a guitar.
>>53361693
because this has never taken off. companies have been adding effects or other things into guitars since the 60s and its always failed comercially. i guess most recently theres that moog guitar and those ibanez ones with built in kaoss pads.
>>53360986
hey mayn
Im that Squier owner. And i am a bit butthurt
Let me explain to you why I love it
I am poor. I dont have alot of money. That is a valid reason for not owning a 2015 Fender Custom Shop
And anyways, my Squier is a MIM, which means Made in Mexico if you dont know. Most modern Squiers are made in the far east. This Squier was made with higher quality parts, better pickups, and the neck is phenomenal. I know many people search for these Squiers, take off the neck, and put them onto parts guitars.
Its silly to laugh at a guitarist for what they can afford
J Mascis, when he went to buy his first electric, could only afford a Jazzmaster, not a strat.
but you "i bought a $200 reverb from guitar center for christmas) fukcbois herald them as great guitars, the BEST guitars for a specific tone
Yet, those original musicians used them because they were shiffordable
And the old blues guys from the Delta. They didn't have shit, but EVERY rock/blues/metal musician owes them respect for revolutionizing guitar music
So yeah.
I LOVE my squier. It is great
>>53362300
Kek butt thirsty cheek pained poor loser detected
>>53360452
Because the design of the guitar was already perfected in the 50s (ES-335/6120, Les paul, Telecaster and Stratocaster).
>>53363114
This here.
>>53363114
>implying all of those guitars don't have major design flaws
>>53363337
>major design flaws
name them
>>53363419
not that guy
BUT
the shit neck joints
headstock angle on gibsons ----> snap-a-roo!
>>53363337
>Implying we give a fuck about those flaws
Tradition bro, tradition. Look video at 18:30 min.
>>53363419
>ES-335
Heel design. Awkward size, no body contours. Headstock construction.
>Les Paul, Telecaster
Heel design. No contours for body when sitting down. Bad headstock construction for Les Paul
>Stratocaster
Volume knob and pickup selector placement. Also a bad heel design.
There's other problems, but these are what I can remember
>>53363449
I know, but I'm just saying that these aren't "perfect guitars"
Im old as fuck and i have tons of guitars and some are 40 years and older. The best sounding guitars have the oldest pickups and by far sound the best and it ain't the wood. Design is entirely another thing. I have a parker fly and a few v's and an explorer designed in the 50's and i think they're of a radical design. Ive never broken and of my gibson headstocks and i toss them around quite a lot. One of my best sounding and playing guitars is my Hondo strat from the early 80's. Go figure. It's made of plywood! Just sayin'
>>53362300
are we witnessing the birth of a new pasta??
>>53362300
That's actually pretty well said
>>53360452
>Why do all guitars look like their straight out of the 50s or are gaudy shit?
Because they are. The only people who care about guitars anymore are teenagers and boomers.
>>53362300
Not to mention Mac Demarco bought the worst piece of shit he could find for $30 when he was 16, fixed it up a bit and still uses it.
And people think his tone is great.
>>53360452
i don't see what's wrong
pic related i own this cutie, japanese fender stratocaster
>>53362300
havent heard so amazing words in a while
thank you for the read anon, this is so true
>>53360452
Actually Stratocasters (I don't know if jags and jazzmasters too) are made to perfectly fits bellow your chest. It's your problem you are dumb and you want your guitar to hang under the belt because you are big macho prick.
>>53366364
do you not understand the word gaudy
>>53366399
No.
>>53362300
You tell them faggots
>>53366165
Who said it's true. I never found a piece of shit that cool looking and cheap
>>53366559
I can see it being true, it's super short scale, probably a kids guitar, probably some cheap brand, second hand in some corner guitar guitar shop
>>53360452
Because the guitarists in the bands you listen to are "muh vintage" hipsters. Look at metal, especially djent bands if you want to see new designs, which are actually mid-80s designs. The "powerstrat" or whatever you call it, I mean your standard ibanez/esp model, was the latest innovation in guitar design, since then nothing new and popular came up
>>53366606
What you named, pretty shitty design m8. When I look on that metal guitars I have urge to vomit.
>>53366594
>mfw all the cheap guitars in second hand shops I found are kid's strat copies or cheap ibanez-tier guitars
Why do all "metal" guitars look like shit? The only exception I can think of is the Iceman.
>>53366644
We need to come up with something new, those haven't changed since the 80s
>>53366606
The parker fly maybe, but it's overpriced as fuck and not that great
>>53366644
B.C. Rich Mockingbird looks good to me
>>53366701
I hate active pickups so much
>>53366701
B.C. Rich are the most metalcore guitars, jfc.
>>53366754
PRS's are way more common
Vigier master race
>>53366778
Wow, I totally forgot PRS. But they also haven't changed since the 80s. Never associated them with metalcore, they're more a classic/hard/prog rock and sometimes buttrock guitar. Metalcore bands use mostly Ibanez or ESP and Les Pauls
>>53366784
It's just a steve vai-tier strat
>>53366816
I don't mind the shape of PRS guitars, its just the shitty colour schemes that put me off
My new baby.. Schecter makes wonderful guitars, great design (bc rich are just awful, and i'm a metalhead)
>>53367014
I think it kinda looks fat, but that's personal preference. But yeah B.C. Rich looks awful most of the time, except maybe fora couple models.
>>53367926
Mockingbird is one of the only okay looking one imo.
So far all these designs suck. Dumping my shit.
>this is now a metal guitar thread
why
>>53367962
I like the stealth, and their V is okay.
>>53368029
cute, but also ugly as fuck
>>53368029
>>53368004
>>53367991
>>53367972
>>53367966
you got all these from probably MIsha Mansor's facebook page or a related metalcore artist, didnt you anon? Its about time you act your age isnt it?
>>53368063
nice one ;^)
>>53366754
bc rich aren't even metalcore tier, more nu-metal tier
>>53368063
hahahahahahahahahhahahaha
>>53368063
only one of them
>>53360499
that intro was so fucking disappointing
>>53360452
>good contemporary guitar design
there are lots, but if you think Fenders look dated, why don't you think that orchestral instruments, saxophones, etc. also look dated?
anyway, here's a modern rock guitar that would make industrial designers proud
>>53366165
not anymore. now he uses expensive shit. look it up.
>>53360499
>dat intro
>>53368307
>modern rock
you mean 90s metal
>>53368304
toilet seat level
bass
>>53368339
no, i mean a modern guitar for rock music. and if that is a 90s metal guitar, then what would you call a contemporary metal guitar?
>>53368371
just meant the the design you posted is from the 90s and was mostly used by metal bands
>>53368405
its from the 80s though
>>53368379
Overwater?
>>53368285
i desire this
>>53368421
you're right, I've just seen many 90s bands using it. there are no contemporary rock guitars though, those ugly 7/8 string models could be called contemporary metal guitars
>>53368439
The guy does custom designs. If I can find his website I'll post a link in here.
>>53368379
What is the brand ? I Love that kind of basses
>>53368522
It's a Mayones.
>not just building your own guitars
it's like you don't want something that works for you instead of you working for it
*tips fodera*
>>53368557
That must be why so many of the greatest guitarists in history made their own guitars right?
>implying being famous has anything to do with the instrument you play
also
>what is a sig guitar
>>53360499
tl dw; does this guy make cheap guitars?
if not, im not sure what his point is.
>>53362300
you got my respect, anon
>>53368626
while admittedly they do generally buy a base model, they always make their own altercations to it. Hardly any buy the guitar and use it as is
>>53368715
pff, maybe they'll swap the pickups or some shit, but that's pretty much it.
>>53360452
Because pic related is objectively the best shape for a guitar.
>>53368740
The Strandberg shape is objectively better, considering it's ergonomically designed.
Couldn't find a GG thread so I guess I'll ask my fellow guitar enthusiasts here.
In your opinion what's the best TRUE BYPASS Wah out there for around $150? If not less. Sick of my wah literally sucking the tone out of my rig 24/7.
>>53368557
I've been interested into building my own gear, but I have no idea where to get some wood or which tools to use.
manson mustard rice reporting in
Why do almost all non-fender guitars have so much spiky shit on them? I want rounded edges that don't stick out much
>>53368809
I came here to post about Strandberg.
Good taste
>no ricks
do u even guitar
>>53369104
best
>>53369104
fuck off, hubert.
>>53369104
Rickenbacker 330 is the only guitar I would play $1000+ for. God damn is it pretty.
>>53368285
>>53368304
>>53368347
>>53368361
flowers are gaudy as fuck bro
>>53368335
>>53367972
Are the only aesthetically pleasing guitars in this thread.
Better question is why the shape hasn't changed at all in almost 200 years. A strat is just one of these with a double cutaway. It's not very ergonomic and has no impact on the sound.
>>53369319
>gaudy
is this the new buzzword on /mu/?
>>53369383
shows how shit your taste is m8
