If you could pick your top 3 discographies based on overall consistency, progression in sound and just generally think "every album is great" what would they be?
I'll start
1. DG
2. Electric Wizard
3. Summoning
I was going to put Bjork or Swans
>fantano reaction image as OP
fuck off and never come back
>>53330754
I can't think of a good third artist but Bowie and Eno definitely come to mind. They both have long discographies with a fair bit of variety and different genres. Those two would keep me entertained for a long time.
The Smiths
Killing Joke
Motorpsycho
Steven Wilson
Gojira almost made it but the last album was underwhelming.
>>53331045
Not all of Bowie's music is good though.
>>53331076
>Steven Wilson
Came in here to post this. All PT albums besides the first and last, all his solo albums, the first Blackfield album and the Bass Communion stuff is all excellent imo.
Beatles
Ween
Tom Waits
Radiohead, Bjork, D'Angelo, and Joanna Newsom are up there for me as well
sublime lol
>>53331101
I agree, I don't care much for the majority of his later material but he still has a handful of really solid albums I haven't gotten tired of after years of listening.
As more of a modern band, Nine inch nails has a pretty impressive discography imo
>>53330754
>Electric Wizard
>not Neurosis
This is mostly just listing artists that didn't have a fucking horrible debut album or go on for long enough to get stale.
LCD Soundsystem,
Swans,
Portishead.
>>53331076
>Steven Wilson
Really? He's largely derivative and he tends to rely on the same lyrical themes: in terms of progressive rock he is terribly average.
>>53331354
Who is better modern prog artist
>LCD Soundsystem
Lel
>>53331425
>Modern Prog
Wouldn't even call Steven Wilson moden prog - majority of his music is just a generic modernisation of 70s prog.
That said I consider all of these to be superior to Steven Wilson (as far as modern prog goes) The Mars Volta, Sajjanu, Zs and Birds and Buildings to name a few...
Dornenreich
Arcturus
Empyrium
Tenhi
Summoning is a good pick too
Jazz Messengers
Parliament/Funkadelic
Charlies Mingus
>>53331566
>majority of his music is just a generic modernisation of 70s prog
So you only heard Raven and Grace for Drowning
TMV are great but they went to shit after 3 albums
>>53331644
Listened to all of his stuff (including Blackfield and No-Man). Wilson creates some decent stuff but I just think it lacks any kind of originality or draw.
And yeah it's unfortunate but I have to agree with you on TMV front - still they had some fucking amazing output in their earlier albums.
Boards of Canada
Beatles
Kanye
mark ernestus & moritz von oswald
SND
Drexciya
>>53331122
Joanna definitely. Tom Waits has a couple missteps but for the volume of music he's put out, he's up there
The Beatles made a bunch of shitty albums though
Rotting Christ
Psyche
Clutch
Bak De Syf Fjell
Talk Talk
>>53330754
Nick Drake (small discog but everything is exceptional)

Mastodon
Nick Cave

Queens of the stone age
Sun Ra
Fugazi
>>53332449
>Sun Ra

>>53330754
King Crimson
Animal Collective
David Bowie
Maybe Tortoise if I ever actually get round to listening to all of it
Neil Young
Zappa
Sun City Girls
>people choosing artists with fewer than 5 albums
Are you even trying
>>53332449
Just downloaded Sun Ra's discography yesterday. He's literally got hundreds of albums, so quality is all over the place. Not every one is a masterpiece, i'd say about 50% of them aren't really worth listening to unless you're a hardcore fan.
>>53330754
The Beatles
Tame Impala (only 2 albums but damn those are some good albums)
Arctic Monkeys
>>53332516
Now that I think about it Pram and Talking Heads are probably contenders, too.
>>53330754
R.E.M.
The Beatles
Vampire Weekend
y'all plebs know it's true
I love fantanis face
>>53330779
Fantano? That's clearly Cal Chuchesta.

Kendrick Lamar
Rush
Beatles
Prodigy
Pre-sellout the black keys
Wire
Kanye
Death
Gojira
Swans
>>53332879
I think if their two Earth-shattering records weren't so understated, they'd get more love here. I'm talking of course about Automatic For The People and Murmur
Coil
Big Black
Unwound (Except their first couple releases)
Special mention: Jesus lizard, the chamelion, my bloody valentine
>>53331211
1. Boris
2. Busdriver
3. Primus
All 15+ years and all still making music
>>53333105
