gotta rephrase. i thought it was retarded when it came out, then i grew to like it a lot, then i stopped caring. then a few years later i fell in LOVE with it, and of course now i've redecided that it's pretty much just silly and retarded. it has some really good ideas, but overall it was waaaaaay too meta. like, i know that they were pissy because of the josh and mic debacles, even though mic came back, and i understand that they tried to sublimate it into a 90s NiN style industrial rock blomph (for lack of a better word), but god damn it's bloated.
for me, i prefer the earlier stuff that's more experimental than in just image. second stage has some excellent indie value, and keeping secrets is really well-balanced and fun. and i still love good apollo for how plain, good ol' fashioned rockin' it is (think Crossing the Frame, and Mother May I). No World is the album i come back to listen to when i remember sad things, like straight up no subjectivity sad shit, Let it Be kind of sadness, cause they had just started breaking up but weren't at that "mrah i'm angry about it heh" phase yet.
i have both halves of the Afterman, and one day i'll listen to them. for the time being, i prefer to support coheed in spirit, in conversation, and with the mindset that they are primarily humans before everything else - i think that my time with their music is over for now.

Feels is a bit of a strange album for me, some of the tracks are fantastic (especially Banshee Beat) but as >>53320667 said after BB there isn't much that stands out. Not to say it's a bad album though, 8/10 is still really good.
As for SJ, it just really clicks with me right from the start, it's like a perfect mix of ST and MPP, in terms of experimentation meets pop. The whole album sounds really colourful with unique textures and has interesting melodies and song structures.
And yeah Person Pitch is just fantastic. That last part of Good Girl is my favourite.

what i don't like about SJ now is how obvious it sounds to me. i listened to it a lot of times during a really stupid time in my life and i feel like i analyzed it way too hard, so now there are no more surprises. i definitely appreciate its role in their evolution, and i think for some people it's the perfect album. i just prefer Feels because of how modest and genuine it sounds, which SJ is totally the opposite of. from the very start SJ pows you right in the kisser, which is cool and i understand it, i just don't want to listen to it most nights out of the year.

What'd you listen to it once? Maybe you have to have had a drug addiction to really "get it", but his I don't care anymore attitude on Relapse is so much less outright than on other garbage like Encore, and his mannerisms are indicative of an addict who tried is hardest to improve, but now he's fallen off the wagon, and now couldn't care less because it's like he knows he'll be dead soon and he's given up on doing anything about it. Crack a Bottle, Old Time's Sake, and Must Be the Ganja execute this perfectly, and the contrast between tracks like We Made You and Insane and Beautiful are explorative of the fucked up, dissonant mindset Em jumps in and out of all over the record. He keeps offering these small pieces of his life, and of how he feels, and you're unsure of whether he's fried or just sobering up, or even withdrawing or fiending when he wrote it.
This is Eminem's introspective masterpiece, it's not about the meaning in the words but the words themselves and the orientation of the tracklist. And Dre brings his best production since MMLP, mixing eerie pulsepounding beats like 3 AM with solemn, atmospheric drones like Beautiful.

Their later stuff isn't all bad, but starting around 1976-77 they started getting really inconsistent. They would have a streak of mediocre releases then a couple of brilliant albums, then back to unremarkable crap. You really have to sift through to find the quality stuff with post-1980 TD.

If I could break GP up into halves, first half would be 10/10 while the second half would be lower.
I think Exmilitary's best songs are all crowded toward the middle.
TMS is mostly good, but I think the first couple tracks are more boring than some later jewels, like Hustle Bones, I've Seen Footage, and Punk Weight. I was put off by this album for a while because I never really listened to the later songs because I was already bored with the first few songs.
I just really dug NOTM's glitchy style.

Dirty South - 9.5/10 (thoroughly excellent. one of the feeliest, grittiest, most interesting albums of its entire genre. anyone interested in Southern Rock or music in general should give it a listen. Cottonseed is kinda crap though)

English Oceans - 6/10 (band is flagging a bit lately)
Decoration Day 7/10 (but has some of their very best singles, such as the title song)
Go-Go Boots - 6/10 (feels more depressed and less gritty. more like cooley is tired than anything else)
Brighter than Creation's Dark 8/10 (definitely an interesting, more country direction with quite a few songs led with female vocals. Some real stars shine here, such as The Opening Act, Goodesfield Road, and Little Bonnie)
