plase explain
>>53113979
compressed to shit to sound as consistently loud as possible
>>53113904
Anything Rick Rubin's done in the last 10 years
I never understood the loudness war. Did sound engineers forget people have volume knobs?
>>53114147
no, but the company managers were never informed of the matter.
>>53114212
MBDTF was great, what are u saying
>>53114138
Indeed. Glad they admitted their mistake, stepped back, and re-released it with a much much better mixing (and artwork).
http://www1.rollingstone.com/hearitnow/player/rush1.html
>>53113979
It clips like crazy and is way too loud.
>>53114212
>plebs don't understand the purposefully brickwalled mastering to have it sound more vintage and timeless
MBDTF would've sounded like shit with a generic, modern hip-hop production.
Music should practically never be boosted past -10dB rms. Hell, -12 is enough for practically anything.
>>53114234
i forgot the pic
>>53114233
You think the sonic dynamics aren't awful? Ridiculously disappointing how badly compressed this album is.
>>53114212
fuck you talmbout
>>53114403
>vintage
What era are you talking about?
>>53114403
>brickwalled
>vintage, timeless
What
>>53114376
What's the matter with CA's engineering?
>>53114403
How does compressing an album make it sound timeless? You sound ridiculous.
>>53114403
Are Kanye defenders the Shadow of the Colossus defenders of the music world?
>but the horse is SUPPOSED to control like shit!
>but the world is SUPPOSED to look boring and gray!
>>53114403
Best be trolling or I'm gonna think you've never looked at the waveforms of older recordings.
>>53114460
Do you seriously not know what the term brickwalled means when talking about mastering?
twat james and lars cutting out the bass. jason was riding the guitar anyway but album just got fucked
>>53114394
It's not actually clipping, it's just that the sound is deteriorated by the processing
>>53114505
I sure do. It's you I'm worried about.
>>53114569
Thank you anon. That image will give me nightmares now.
>>53114511
That's one of the best produced metal albums of all time, along with Remission. What's with you people and disliking anything that doesn't sound like complete generic mastering? Yeah, the bass is inaudible but the whole album has a dry, clinical sound that is distinct. I personally am not a fan of generically produced 'studio music' with clearly separated audio tracks, instruments etc. It just sounds generic and lifeless.
>>53114534
Can we stop talking about Kanye Poo
>>53114595
I agree man, and ive been producing for years and years...No matter what, when I say this, though, people assume I am a massive, stubborn pleb, but I enjoy muddied frequencies and sloppy production, sometimes. Honestly, I just listen to the song with open ears, and usually, if the artist isnt totally shit, they mixed it a certain way intentionally. I hate that polished sound anyway, lol
>>53114678
I agree that sloppiness works sometimes. I just want that bass turned up. There was no good reason to hide it in the mix.
>>53114403
>Kanye fans
ITT:
>all I know about production is brick wall limiting
>fader monkey
>engineer
lmao
>>53114147
On average, people will rate a song higher if it sounds louder.
>>53114804
>implying the production is the problem with foo fighters
>>53114595
>Remission
Blood Mountain has a much better engeneering
Fucking terrible. do producers not understand that you need to have some quiet moments to balance between the loud ones? jesus.
>>53114835
>took the words out of my mouth
>>53114832
>On average, plebs will rate a song higher if it sounds louder.
>>53114817
Tell us more oh wise production master.
>>53114475
>hating on Shadow of the Colossus
>>53114817
It's the most obvious offender in modern production
No one's going to bemoan the low-freq sidechain compression on blah-dee-blah's new album or its use of multiband EQ/comp ahead of too much limiting
>>53114462
Dynamic range is shit.
>>53114595
Isn't the argument that you just can't hear the bass at all?
albums made better by the horrible recording quality?
>>53114475
both of those things are true though
>>53114846
Many producers nowadays say that they're sacrificing some of the quality and sphistication of certain sounds for a more loud end for the musics, specially in the rock, pop, hip hop, mainstream stuff in general.
Reason: mostly kids with iPods who don't give a flying fuck about album mixing and its richness will listen to it, so it's not that worth of the endeavour.

It's still worth the reading

>>53115058
Agreed, but this whole album is a disaster in every single aspect, it's worth saying
>>53115079
Niggas ain't considering the future when they make those decisions
>>53115079
The iPod killed music
>>53114938
Gyuhhhhhh
It's funny because Images and Words probably has the best drum sound of any prog album.
This should have been a better record than Let It Be as there's only one weak track: "Lay It Down Clown" (And it's only weak because of it's chorus). But Tommy Ramone had to come in and put fucking reverb and doubling fx on nearly everything, it makes it sound thin and frail, which is the exact opposite of what the Replacements were. The only track the production works on is "Here Comes a Regular".
>>53114729
Really? I thought the mastering and production on American Idiot helped the direction of the album, as well as make the songs easier to get into I suppose.
The thing is where it DIDN'T work was when they tried using the same EVERYTHING for Black Parade, where it's always going to be an 8/10 partially because the production doesn't work with the subject material. If it's in the head of a cancer patient looking over his life and the reality of death, it shouldn't sound like a garage rock band of some punk who moved to the city to get away from the family who doesn't actually have a studio yet. Sleep's one of the best examples of this on the album, the sample has all the reason in the world to be there, but the sample just doesn't feel like it's in place because the production's so stripped back. Yeah I can hear every instrument and tell what every one is, but does that really work with what they're trying to put forward here? It's like if Dark Side of the Moon was produced and recorded like Aja.
Yeah, yeah, say stuff, skip's a pleb who likes teenage pleb bands, I listened to this stuff when I was in highschool, same as everyone.
>>53114938
>>53115232
SC has that bass tho
>>53115355
I should also mention that I know next to nothing about how albums are recorded or produced before someone corrects me.
The vocal tracks on this are legit GRATING. Ruined the albums potential.
>>53114729
HDtracks version sounds good
>>53115428
yeah, way too clean-sounding. I'd kill for a dirty Pork Tree record
>>53115519
wat
>>53115519
Yeah, I have to agree. I didn't even hear anything.
Was it just me or did this album sound bad? I love the album. All the songs are great, but something doesn't right at all with the way it all sounds.
>>53116007
forgot the pic.
>>53114403
I listen to a 48kHz vinyl rip of MBDTF just to annoy you lol
this one here
the remastered version at any rate.
>>53114729
honestly, I think /mu/ would be all over this album if it had been a little less well-produced and not given to a mainstream audience. It's good, but you guys don't like it because other people do.
>>53115007
came here to post this
>>53115519
no
this, although I've only listened to it a handful of times and starting to believe I just don't care for the music much. besides The Killing Moon, fuckin love that one.
>>53115307
God this pisses me off so much. I'd contend it's even worse than Raw Power. When I hear the demo versions of any Tim songs (incl. Can't Hardly Wait), I just imagine how great the Mats could've been after LiB.

>>53114595
there is literally no bass in the entire album and you say it's a masterpiece?
I still feel sorry for Jason
>>53114696
what was wrong with it? I thought is was pretty par the course
>>53116220
The snare sounds so much better in this live version.
>>53114147
started with jukeboxes and just kind of got wacky from there
>>53114475
>he doesnt think SotC is a masterpiece
Letlive. - The Blackest Beautiful was awfully mixed. Horrible sound.
what's up with the production here
this album is awesome but it sounds awful
Every Clark album
Every Death Grips album
