Jukebox was the band that defined two full years of high school for me. My friends saw them open for Ben Folds and bought Let Live and Let Ghosts after the show. We all instantly fell in love with its operatic melodies, its earnestness, its laughable-yet-endearing lyrics, and its simple production values. We played that album to death and went to all their shows in our state for the next two years. We evangelized them to our peers, convinced that we alone had discovered something truly special.
Their 2nd and 3rd albums were very good in different ways, but they began to take a more polished direction and lacked the same sincerity that made LLaLG so great.
It kills me to say that I've been incredibly disappointed by everything I've heard from their forthcoming LP. They sound like any other pop band now, almost as if they're aiming to gain popularity as background music in an indie rom-com or a car commercial. I feel like they've completely lost the sense of fun and theatricality that drew so many of their fans in the first place. makes me sad and nostalgic.

I did listen to the new album a hell of a lot, it's definitely fun and enjoyable but yeah definitely too polished. 'Hollywood' is fairly close to their older stuff. But nothing on it matches up to their god tier debut.
>those apocalypse songs
>THE COLD AINT SO COLD
>GOTTA REARRANGE THE STARS
>RAPE AND KILL AND SACRIFICE
one of my all time favorites

Also if you're looking for something like LLaLG, Ben Thornewill has a solo album called 'The Beauty of Absolutes' with a lot of great songs. Mostly just him and a piano so it's a lot more stripped back, and a couple of the songs are also on LLaLG.

I agree with this so much. LLaLG was a staple album for a friend and I in high school and we followed them for another album or two. But with each new release they left LLaLG behind more and more. Everything Under the Sun has some stand out tracks though.

The Beauty of Absolutes is so great! The Vividness of Dreaming might be my favorite track on the album, it's one of the most delicate and sensitive ballads I've ever heard. It's dangerously cheesy at times but so good
