I fucking L<3VE Jazz.
Miles Davis, Brubeck, Blakey, Armstrong, Ellington, I dig it all. Do you guys have some favorite styles of jazz? Me? I like Swing, Big Band, Bossa Nova, some Bebop and Bobop, and Post-Bop, pre-Bop, Hard Bop, Cool Bop, and Avant-Guard, Experimental (Mingus for the jizz).
Right now I'm listening to TIME OUT by The DBQ. Fucking classic. I love the way he uses time signatures.
Django is also my man and there's no one like him.
I guess Fusion is okay, except when it sounds too much like Prog. Fuck that, rockist bullshit.
>>53105983
what's bobop and pre-bop? also I hate the term swing since all jazz swings.
Can anyone recommend the essential big band albums please?
New to Jazz, and I'm loving Big Band and Bebop currently.
>>53106036
dizzy at newport as amazing. his big band rocks
>>53106053
Thank you, will downkoad some of his stuff
>>53105983
rec me some straight bebop. no hard bop or postbop bullshit
>>53106036
>big band albums
You mean compilations. People didn't record albums in the 30s.
>>53106106

Hank Mobley Blue Note Albums
Monk Criss Cross albums
Clifford Brown & Max Roch Quintet
Sonny Rollins - anything from the late 50's
Cannonball Blue Note albums
Lee Morgan - everything he released is great
Joe Henderson - Blue note Albums (listen to all of them essential stuff)
Booker Little s/t (got scott lafaro)
Kenny Dorham Blue Note albums.
>>53106106
>>53106118
Nice, I appreciate it.
>>53106119
>Booker Little s/t (got scott lafaro)
welp, getting this. based scott is based
>>53106144
absolutely. Booker Little is no sucker either. one of my favorite trumpet dudes
Love me some of that Modal shit. Kind of Blue might seem like a pleb choice but it's legitimately one of the best. Also Wayne Shorter and Bill Evans Trio.
how do i into bird?
>>53106162
check out "bird's best bop on verve" and his complete savoy recordings if you're a manly man.

Good show.
I feel like one could get a good grasp of entry level jazz just taking note of the records they put on display.
>tfw /jizz/ gets way more traffic than /nbjj/
>>53106230
Memes and Art Blakey are more user friendly.
Is this Jazz?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wx6ikxdNfbU
Where do I look for sweet stuff like this? Slow Swing?
>>53106230
lmao true
How is your nbjj though, mate?
>>53106205
What anime is this?
>>53105983
I think rock music could use more saxophone solos these days.
>>53106250
Kids on the Slope. When it's not being sub-par romance it's an anime about a classical pianist who starts playing jazz with a drummer with adhd.
>>53106151
dude, this record is ace. thanks for the rec. I actually like little's playing more than scott's on this, based on the first track
I love Bill Evans and Ahmad Jamal. Any similar artists?
>>53106254
I think Deep House could use more Marimba solos these days.
>>53106250
>How is your nbjj though, mate?
not doing that. I listen to a jazz album about everyday but I have to listen to other music so I don't go mental. Are you doing it? how's it going?
>>53106228
Id be lying if I said KotS wasnt my first toe into some jazz.
That talent show scene is way to hype inducing.
>>53106311
I'm listening to other things tbh, but I usually only get to about 3 jazz albums a week so the challange this month is to hear one everyday.
It's been good so far, listened to all the importent fusion and free jazz I could find. I still have a long list to listen to though, if I really wanna feel like I got a grasp of those genres. I'll probably keep going next months, perhaps at a slower pace.
>>53106264
For a moment there I thought there is a well-known anime I somehow never heared about. Then I realized it's fucking Apollon.
What's with the stupid translation anon, lol
>>53106320
I've gotten my friend (who is a classical pianist with a pathological fear of imrov) somewhat interested in jazz with KOTS. It's genuinely a nice intro to the genre.
>>53106387
>Apollon
I don't watch anime. So I only know it by the English name.
>>53106106
what a bunch of bullshit.
Kinda interested to see how many people are actually still doing nbjj.

>dig
Please don't say dig. For the love of god, don't say dig just because you're talking about jazz.
>>53106547
Really? That's the part that struck you as being off?
>>53106119
most/all of this is hard-bop/post-bop
>>53106644
oh shit i misread the "bebop" as "hardbop" kek. Anyway if anybody wants some good hardbop the albums i mentioned are great for that,

Can we talk about Jazz now that you're had your attention fit?
Piano is the best instrument in Jazz.
probably
>really missed Stevie Wonder over /NBJJ/
>debate with myself whether he counts as jazz but decide he isn't
>consider looking at his REALLY early material where he played jazz but realize he probably wouldn't be singing and they probably wouldn't be all that good
>resign myself to another week and a half without Stevie Wonder
>Put on pic related with no real idea what to expect
>on track 2

/Nothing but jazz January/. It's like the black metal thing, but far less successful.

Nobody is that much of a traditionalist.
He's possibly the most important popular musician ever but to call him the only good jazz musician would be unfair.
