The instrumentation is psychedelic.

"There is often a strong emphasis on extended instrumental solos or jams, typically featuring a heavily distorted electric guitar as the main instrument"

Sing this all together is very much a communal jam.
>>
>>53014239
BtB wasnt trying to recreate the acid experience...

it may seem trippy to you, and i dont doubt they didnt take drugs then, but its not psych rock

psych rock is mainly about trying to create a very particular feeling that you can only understand if you've taken LSD, or have a wide enough imagination and can dig a trance state

too freak folk

maybe was inspired by acid trips but i would definitely not recommend, i feel the same way about trout mask replica...

I listened to the whole album the last time I tripped, it was pretty excellent
I was in a really comfy place with really great people though
tmr though... I would just stay away from that album in general
>>
>>53014320
funnily enough, i recommend not listening to trout mask, but i have listened to a few tracks while stoned and flying very high, and i had a blast it really connected

but i can see where it might get alittle /spooky/
>>
>>53014029
man it clicked instantly with me
loved at first listen
>>
>>53014263
that same criticism can be used on HSMR, since that was just the stones jumping on the next bandwagon.

Isn't psilocybin efficient?
>>53014261
Not a very trippy nor interesting one. Not even the second time around.
>>
Since everyone seems to think psychedelic rock died with the sixties, I'd maybe suggest Yo La Tengo

and? maybe they were, its still their most proficient psych album...

It seems like this is kind of a psychedelic general thread so I ask why is Revolver consider great?

I understand its historical value but nothing much more. There's a few great tracks but overall is pretty lackluster.

>>
>>53014426
its not lackluster at all wtf are you smoking bitch?

literally every single track is fucking amazing

even yellow submarine, although it is kinda a gimmicky track, still groundbreaking and fun to sing along to

you strike me as the kind of pleb who's like "revolver is OK, the only song i like in tomorrow never knows derp xp"
>>
>>53014438
it makes me sad
>>
>>53014439
i like how you think "jumping the bandwagon" means not being experiemntal at the same time

after revovler, the beatles made sgt pepper which was them making a full out psych experience, and yet its regarded as their best or most progressive

idk why you're such a faggot
>>
>>
>>53014454
Actually I only enjoyed eleanor rigby, Im only sleeping, love you to, for no one, and tomorrow never knows. From all of those songs tomorrow never knows is my least favorite one (even though i vastly prefer it to some of the other material).
>>
>>53014520
What exactly was experimental, that they haven't already done in the past?

Why are you talking about another band?

fresh. checking out this album.
>>
>>53014730
first off, you don't even need effects or fancy equipment to replicate psychedlia

many people at the time found out how naturally acidy the sitar was, which gained huge popular interest in eastern music and philosophy

also, drone music was becoming more popular in the avant garde scene, and bands like the velvet underground experiemented with that. (eastern music is also very naturally drone-like anyway)

basically, acid has a very trance like quality about it, but essentually it doesnt, its hard to explain, because you could listen to justin bieber and be facinated by the sounds anyway

to awnser your question though, a normal guitar strum could sound, on acid, very watery and manipulated almost cartoonish

music on acid in general is very huge and goes on forever, sounds multiply or shrink and just freak, and simultaneously your fried brain is just trying to process it as if you've never heard music in your life

tl;dr the effects try to imiate for someone who desnt take drugs what music would sound like on drugs, so those people could take drugs...

taking acid and lsitening to music is great, because you're like a child, you have no comprehension of what music is or what a sound is or how you process information but its all beautful and freeing

its very hard to explain if you've never partaken yourself, but in a nutshell, the effects TRY (try being a key word, because ive never heard a song except mayby pink floyds any colour you like replicate what the acid experiance COULD be like for somneone whos never tried it) to make the music more druggie and trance-like

how am i coping out

do you know how hard it is to explain how it feels being on LSD?

you need context and explanations for this
>>
>>53014915
He's right though- its impossible to explain to someone who has never tripped.

>music on acid in general is very huge and goes on forever, sounds multiply or shrink and just freak, and simultaneously your fried brain is just trying to process it as if you've never heard music in your life

I think this a very insightful example. Buy some psychedelics or spend a decade meditating daily to attain enlightenment

very acid-y track from a vastly underrated psych album...
>>
>>53014864

Props for a very apt description.
+ points for citing Any Colour You Like as one of the only replications of acid-like musical feeling, I absolutely agree with you there
>>
>>53015054
Is really intense the first two days but when it finally hits you its amazing ( I am also amusing really hazardous for your health but I was a dumb horny teenager so it's not like I cared at the time)

Also listening to shoegaze and post-rock while doing this is terrifying but I liked it a lot.
>>
>>53015129
my nicca, thats what shoegaze IS

kevin shields admitted they were trying to replicate the acid experience with the whole tremolo arm strumming thing, the wall of sound noise pop stuff, like loveless

according to him he and the band were all stoned and he kept strumming one note for a long time as if it went on forever, and they all were having such a fun time that they started trying to incporate it into their actual music, trying to make acid records

also at the same time they were doing that, the supposed "second summer of love" was happening in eurpoe and muscians were taking LSD again and it was everywhere in da clubs

shoegaze essentially is psychedelic music, hell, even dream pop is psychedelic

its not trying to recreate the psych feeling but it does anyway becasuse thats how the music evolved

have you ever heard beach house on LSD? holy shit...
>>
>>53015196
Meh, I dislike beach house, in terms of dream pop i would rather listen to broadcast or melody echo chamber.

But it only matters what you think of their music, at the end of the day you hear it not me so enjoy.
>>
>>53015245
thats too bad you dont like beach house, they're one of the decades best dream pop outfits but OK...

melody echo chamber is great, i love kevin parkers stuff anything hes done, but its too simple, its too novice for me, not bad, but not as interesting as beach hourse
