I tend to be in control of the music playing much of the time. There is usually no negative response, which is surprising given the violent tendencies of some of the music I tend to play. The only negative results are when I play blatantly inflammatory music, an example of which is when I played Limp Bizkit and Korn at a friend's party.

Everyone enjoyed it enough for it to play all the way through, probably contributed to everyone getting irresponsibly and raunchily drunk.

Depends on the party. If I'm drinking with my close friends they know I'm into "hipster bands", but I still don't play my stuff exclusively. Most of them are kinda into buttrock and "heavy" rock so I usually just put on Melvins, Kyuss, Goatsnake or QotSA and they love it. If I'm in a more social party with girls etc. then stuff like Danny Brown, RTJ or some general trap rap seems to work(TNGHT is good). A lot of people liked Clipping too, surprisingly. I have a bit more fucking sense not to play Lustmord or some dark ambient drone shit while people are trying to have fun.
