ITT: Albums that are not widely recognized as being anything too amazing but are personal 10/10s for you.
>>52779748
most think it's clearly inferior to Citrus, I could not disagree more. not only their best, one of the best of the 2000s imo
My AOTY for 2014
>>52779777
im pretty sure this is widely recognized as amazing
>>52779810
forgot pic
best thing ever made
>>52779748
GOAT Skramz
>>52779846
Mmm so nice on vinyl
>>52779748
I agree with you on this OP, AOTY for me
I feel like most OPN fans aren't aware that this album even exists.
>>52779975
Is that the one where he samples the police and victims of assault cases or something like that?
The sound's so relatable
>>52780071
don't believe so.
>>52780154
Well I'll have to give young beidnahga a listen
Not that SDE is even widely recognized at all anyway, but yeah.
far and away my 2014 aoty
>>52779972
Favorite Yo La Tengo release. Unfortunately, I listened to it heavily through the slow decline of a long distance relationship.
Something about how cozy and warm the album sounds was exactly what I needed when I was spending a lot of really cold nights alone, but now I have a hard time listening to it.
>>52779827
So fucking amazing.
I like its subtle depressed mood
>>52779846
Never heard of this and I'm listening now. Good shit. Thanks anon.
>>52780461
I have this exact feel apart from mine wasn't long distance, totally agree, melancholic yet comforting - beautiful album
>>52779972 was me btw
>>52780387
great album, good memories... is my favourite though
>>52780577
my nigga that was aoty in 2007
kwau
This is my favorite album of all time. Most don't get it until I really explain meticulously why.
>>52779777
This has been 10/10 for me right now cuz depression.
>>52781648
fuck you smoking when this came out it was probably the most hyped hip hop release of the year. along with glowing reviews.
Listen to it if you haven't yet.
Mew is fucking amazing.
I'm aware of the shitstorm I can cause with this post but I have to tell you I'm not baiting here. It's a seriously great album.
>>52781786
This album is awful though, the best songs on this are as better versions on Half The World is Watching Me. Their debut is their best
>>52781787
>Bones, sinking like stones
>All that we fall for
Does this count? It gets praise here and there, but it should be considered one of the greatest albums of all time. To me, it's the greatest ever.
>>52781787
It's not that good but it has it's moments, I also like their early EPs and parts of Rush of Blood and X&Y. With Viva La Vida they completely sold out
>>52781823
>better versions
Exactly. Plus, Comforting Sounds is one of the best finishers I've heard on an album.
I agree that ATFM is fucking great too.
>Panda
>Wheels Over Me
>that version of She Came Home for Christmas
>>52781840
only scaruffi
>>52779889
>literally THE essential skramz classic
>not widely recognized
get the fuck out
>>52779889
That's skramz?
I've only ever seen the album art, and for some reason I assumed it was hip hop or some Imagine Dragons-tier group.
It reminds me of Mezzanine and Endtroducing in the best way. It feels like a disorganized collage at first, but the more I listen, the more I realize I like collages.
>>52782226
Screamo
>>52782226
Well, I think it's the most infamous screamo album ever made (along with maybe pg.99' "Document 8".) Go listen to it, anon, it's essential.
>>52780477
this fucking fuck this. this is great music.
>>52781702
"Most don't get it until I really explain meticulously why"
I'm sure you truly enlightened them.
Anyway, my 2014 AOTY
It's extremely formulaic, it's whiny and the lyrics approach ballad levels of cheesy but I still love it despite all that.
>>52782600
You kidding me, bruh? This is one of the saddest albums ever made and definitely one of the best doom albums out there.
pic related for me. no shit its a very popular release, but i think for most people its only a good album, flavor of the month bs. when really ive had this album on constant repeat since 2011 and it's still the best thing to have sex to. easily one of the best albums ive ever heard, sexier than anything Prince has ever done, and doesnt get the respect it deserves
>>52781787
Sparks is one of my favorite songs, ever I think. Maybe it's my high school sentimentality talking, but Sparks is still the most transcendent love song I've ever heard.
And it was a /mu/ recommendation! One of my favorite albums of all-time.
i could write a book about this album
>>52782508
Hey! I got my friend into real metal after all he listened to was shitty middle/high school metalcore beforehand as a result!
Btw nice pick. In my top 3 of 2014.
>>52782704
Dawg! There's something about this album that reminds me of glengarry glen ross. Idk why, but I love it
This whole album just sounds so right to me. It's like a confession / stream of consciousness kind of thing that deals with despair and depression. I listen to it from start to finish a couple times a week and it always feels too short when it ends too suddenly.
I love every second of it
There is no album like it
>>52782737
hell yeah man! the only time anyone talks about this album on /mu/ is to say how bad it is but imo it's their finest release
>>52782780
I actually thought about it like that at first, but then I saw them play some of it live and gave the album a sit down listen again. totally changed my mind
>>52780088
link?
The best pop album of the 60s, and one that laid the groundwork for art pop to come.
>>52780456
Best math rock album of all time
>>52779824
my nigga
The best vaporwave release I've ever heard and one of my favorite ambient electronic albums. It's even made by the same ladydude that made floral shoppe, but nobody ever talks about it.
>>52783546
Also this, but Boris in general gets a lot of buzz among stoner, sludge, and drone fans.
>>52780123
Good album. JBM has some beautiful lyrics.
>>52782743
This is always overlooked because of TDAGARIM but this one means so much more to me
>>52779846
Holy shit this is fucking good. Thanks man.
>>52779889
>>52780474
>>52782600
>>52782710
>>52783546
>>52785237
agreed, these are all 9+/10
here's one I never see brought up enough when talking about the classics of early extreme metal, everything about this album blows my mind especially when taken in context of when it was released (1986)
>>52781855
Viva La Vida is their best album though.
>>52779917

>>52780568

>>52782851

>>52780596
12 quite good, I prefer it to Nook. However, I am in love with Shrink.
>>52779827
i saw this earlier in a aoty thread and gave it a listen, damn was it good.
i might have a bias with this because it got me into actually breaking things down as to why i like them, but i fucking love yellow house
This is easily the best emo album of the '10s for me, it just completely sums up how it feels to be young.
>>52785237
also this is rad, one of my favourite albums ever
Also this
>>52781702
>Most don't get it until I really explain meticulously why.
do it
>>52781810
I adore this album, also Desertshore makes me cry
>>52786697
10/10 for me too. Absinth is a better version of You Made Me Realise.
bump
>>52780474
I've always thought that some songs on here are 10/10, but it's just too inconsistent IMO
>>52781786
yes, although this album is more or less a compilation of their early material. still 10/10
>>52781787
yea
>>52781823
no, too unrefined and not as good as frengers or even no more stories
>>52782641
lightning in a bottle, he will never make an album this good again
>>52782743
fuck no
>>52784910
how could you possibly like this more than Neo Cali or Color Ocean Road?
>>52786459
I tried so hard to like this album, but Shields was the only one that I enjoyed all the way through. IMO they're still improving
>>52779796
YUP
>>52779777
hell yes
not a 10/10, but this album is fucking incredible to me
>>52786664

>>52786232
>someone here knows Notwist
my rating:
12 > Shrink > Devil, You + Me > Neon Golden > Nook > Close to the Glass > The Notwist
12 is my favourite because there isn't anything else that sounds like it, the title track is also one of my favourite songs ever
>>52779839
yes
>>52787971
Greatest band of 00s, they are highly regarded though
You & Me = Lisbon > A Hundred Miles Off > Heaven > Everyone Who Pretended to Like Me Is Gone > Bows & Arrows
>>52787693
get a load of this guy
>>52783503
>Fascination is one of Bowie's most underrated songs
>>52788029
i dont disagree but the rat is a top song
>>52782641
The Weeknd never came to close to replicating this album. He thought his niche was his vocal runs and dark moods... it's actually his songwriting. House of Balloons is a brilliant pop album.
>>52779777
oh shit nice trips
>>52779846
I just listened to the first 4 songs. P Good.
But, have you ever listened to Bibio? It's the exact same style of music, but with more ambitious production, and he can sing/play the guitar like a motherfucker.
A band that produce feels like no other
>>52779824
ew get the fuck out with that pleb indie bullshit
>>52781840
"Only listen to it if you are looking for some experimental shit to listen to." this has to be the most underrated album of all time. Should be 10 across the boards.
>>52786716
Not today. But someday, I will write the 5-10 page paper I have always said I can write on why I think it's the best album ever made. Once I do have it done, I'll post it here, too for you all to see.
>>52782743
Maybe not a ten out of then album, but the first two songs are god tier+
>AND EVERYTHING YOU CLING TOO, WILL ROT!
>>52782752
This is the only album I have never gotten tired of

(1/2)
I appreciate how Earl uses the features he has on this album. Because he was forced to go to a boarding school in Somoa or somewhere, he feels like he has been left behind by most of his peers (instead of riding the wave of popularity from his mixtape he essentially disappeared for over a year) which is why I think he chose to have SK La' Flare, somebody virtually unknown rap before him on his own album. In addition, most of the featured artists (I'd say 7 or 8 out of the 9) were more popular than Earl at the time (The exceptions being SK La' Flare and possibly Cassie Veggies). All of the features are louder and usually more animated in their flows/styles (especially Tyler, RZA, and Mac) than Earl making them stand out more (I know a lot of people described Domo as being "hungry" on his verse), yet if you sit down and really listen to the lyrics, Earl lyrically is rapping circles around these guys. Throughout the entire album (I don't know if you've listened to it) Earl's voice sounds like he's tired and frankly done with this shit (which is one of the common criticisms I've heard of it); he even looks tired and disinterested on the cover. But considering his circumstances it is pretty understandable especially considering that by the time Earl dropped this there was a chance most people would have forgotten about him and this album could have flopped in terms of sales.
I like it for a lot more personal reasons too. My first time listening to it, I was expecting nothing (frankly, I disliked his "Earl" tape). So I really appreciated the more personal subject matter on some of the songs (Chum, Burgandy, and Pre for example). I liked how the production was varied but nearly all fitting with the mellow/exhausted lyrical vibe. Just in general, I'm a big fan of his MF DOOM-esque style of low-voiced lyrical acrobatic delivery.
>>52792125
Underageb&
>>52794394
(2/2)
It's a lot of things, I guess it was probably just hearing the album under the right circumstances which drew me in, and it does have enough depth that it has lots of replay value. Sorry if it sounds like I'm sucking Earl's dick, but (like I said) I really do love this album.
>>52794488
>Sam Roberts?
>>52779889
I prefer Dance Tonight tbh
pic related is my skramz GOAT tho
>>52781702
literally one of the most acclaimed and influential albums in its genre
>>52779748
>personal
>for you
dad redundancy tho
>>52787246
That album is fucking golden. For starters the segues between the tracks tie it together wonderfully. It's unified surprisingly well and makes a world of its own like Loveless, even if it's done in a very similar way.
i love this album so much
why did they never make another album like this
>>52779748
fuck fantano
this album is fun to listen to because of the unique sound and captivating hooks and drums, and complex enough to make all the intricate rythms exciting to hear again and again, i really sunk into this album over the years
>>52788495
Dang this is the best thing i've heard in a long time. Thank you.
>>52780402
Also, this is really good, sad I didn't hear about it sooner
>>52780402
hell yeah
>>52779748
I agree OP. It has such a unique sound and every song sticks really well.
I'd go as far to say that Golden Waves is my favorite dream pop track of all time.
>>52795061
good choice. That album is filled with emotion and Siren Song is incredible
this album is amazing
>tfw no one will ever agree with you
>>52794453
suck that dick nigga
i liked this album and i prefer earl to every other OF member but i preferred the earl mixtape because i felt there was more of a creative element to it, the themes and scenarios were bizarre and fun whereas this albums theme was depressing, which has its purpose but nevertheless doesn't feel as exciting as the earl tape. the earl tape was a lot more fun imo, not to discredit doris for what it is, but i hope his next shit he feels better about life and more excited to make his album
