How is the music scene in your area /mu/?

What are some of your favorite local acts?

Pls post links of bands too.

i've never heard of anything good in miami
>>
>New Bedford
It's terrible. There's like, no real venues or gigs near here from what I know from my life living here. The bands here are shit too.
I remember meeting a guy at a Cumberland Farms (local convenience store chain) and he told us about his band 'Part the Seas'.
Looked them up and this is what I found
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hLiAYcYL59Q
Did I mention that almost everyone here has shit taste in music? If they don't listen to Top 40 garbage they're listening to some scenecore deathcore wannabe garbage. It's kinda sad. There's like no one to discuss music with.

Cleveland bro here
The music scene is really good and varied
These 2 bands have friends of mine in them

There's also a band named Sunmouth that plays shoegaze, but they don't have anything online. I first saw them open for Whirr and I was blown away.
I'm hoping my project can get off the ground soon.
>>
>>52468294
Thing that is sad about it is that the Burger fanbase think they support their DIY scene when they buy a Growlers or Black Lips cassette at the Burger store at a show, they're so delusional to seeing what's out there.

I mean I don't know much about the DIY scene so I can speak much on behalf of it but then again it's obvious to see how blind Burger kids are.

Thrust is pretty cool, didn't really like Pile of Napkins, and I've already listened to Together Pangea before

a few ok bands and literally nothing else. very few shows. no bands from out of town want to play here because nobody goes to shows- so basically there is no actual scene. you have to drive an hour to Columbia, SC to see anyone good.
also like 90% of the people in the scene here are terrible people. most are your typical hxc vegan tryhards who have literally no future outside of Augusta, or anywhere else. it's very cliquey, not a lot of fun to be a part of.

here are a couple of decent bands, the guys who play in them are cool too. if you're into topshelf records emo bands, you'll probably dig them:

>holy fucking shit an actually interesting thread

I live in Buffalo NY and music scene is fucking horrible. Unless I'm missing something I'm 95% sure it's mostly bands either wanting to STILL be The Devil Wears Prada, The Acacia Strain, or Title Fight.

We lack an electronic music scene almost entirely, and basically one promotion company runs the show for the entire town, there's a couple guys around here who ARE trying to make an effort but the main promoter unfortunately shits on them in every way.

Really interested in other people's thoughts who have perhaps played through here
>>
>>52473005
I live in Fullerton where they have their Burger Records shop. If it wasn't for them having a good selection on Record Store Day and Cassette Store Day, I would never go there opposed to other local record stores.

The dudes that run the place are total shitheads who can't hold a music discussion and have the worst selection of records. They're all about their image as a scene rather than anything worthwhile.

Milwaukee is alright. There are some cool acts, but I kind of feel like there good stuff in any bigger city. I feel like I see people all the time that are as good as most bands you see on pitchfork, but that doesn't really make me think highly of those bands so much as it makes me think lowly of the semi-famous indie scene.

>>
Chicago suburbs? Lagrange here, I've found fuck-all. Best diy venues downtown?
>>
>>52473854
yeah been to couple at the great indoors and elsewhere. it's decent. i feel like a lot of noise is some idiot making a feedback loop with a few pedals which is okay but i'm trying to see something that's engaging for more than a couple minutes. it's definitely tight knit but everyone is loads more accommodating than the tumblr crowd at golden teahouse or mj or what have you. it's as if the noise guys give a shit (at least moreso than the punk scene).

showing up to shows isn't everything. the work you put out is a lot more important. philly punks forget this and that's why the scene is stagnating. at least there's a bit of innovation in the noise scene (even if most guys are making feedback loops).
>>

Philly anons, how do I get into the scene? I've heard a few local bands in passing but they were all "party punk" as you said, and they didn't really appeal to me.

I disagree. The scene here has gotten much less dynamic, but we still have originated and currently have a few gems in the general pile of shit.

They Mean Us, Quiet Kids, The Wailing Fleet, Porkeria are all good and current acts. Although TMU has moved away, they recently reunited and came down.

Panucci's are also excellent, I was gonna play a show with them earlier this year but it kinda fell apart before it happened. I've been friends with Matt on Facebook for a while and I think we live pretty close to each other so imma try to go to the next show at their place

Ben David is poser trying his hardest to be Wil Fagner.

Hydromedusa, Iron Worzel, Swamplung are great. Every other half decent band has been taken over by heroin and alcoholism
